Prep + Prime Highlighter
A while ago I bought M-A-C's Studio Finish SPF 35 Concealer and Prep + Prime Highlighter just to complete my makeup collection. Wait, who are we kidding?  I'll probably find another reason to buy something...  Any who, descriptions:

Studio Finish SPF 35 Concealer "is an emollient-based, lightweight concealer which is so concentrated that a tiny amount can provide opaque coverage of the skin's imperfections and discolorations.  It effectively covers dark circles, blemishes, moles, tattoos and birthmarks.  Enriched with antioxidants (derivatives of Vitamin A and Vitamins E), it also contains silica to absorbs skin's oils."  Oh, and it contains SPF 35 protection... Retails for 19 bucks.

Prep + Prime Highlighter " is a highlighter that efficiently brings a soft sheer wash of color to the skin.  Use over makeup for highlights, touch-ups, or under makeup to brighten and prime." Retails for 26 bucks.

My sort of kind of review: I really like the concealer but have only used it around my brows for a more defined look.  I think the color I have may be too light to use on dark marks but I'll test that theory...eventually.  Regarding the highlighter, I don't like it.  I think my oily skin is rejecting it.  So...I'll probably continue using it because I paid nearly 30 bucks for it but won't use it again...

Train to Hell!
First and foremost, I got married this past Friday! *insert applause here*  Immediately following, we took wedding photos then headed to Chattanooga, TN for a mini honeymoon.  Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you guys that we nixed the wedding because it was a super annoying process because it considers everyone but THE BRIDE AND GROOM. Secondly, it was too costly.  I had a hard time comprehending that I needed to spend all of my money and all of my time planning something I didn't want to have.  In the end I got what I wanted, my husband.  But, I digress. Back to Chattanooga.

Similar to the wedding planning situation, I didn't feel like planning a mini honeymoon.  I have Hawaii in mind for the real one so I let my husband do the planning and once we arrived, I kind of regretted letting him plan it.  Why?  I'm not really an outdoors person... Scared of heights, scared of tight places and I can't swim.  I'm just a mess but I put on my big girl panties and pushed through it.

On Day 1, we had about 40 mins to drop our bags off and head to the dock for a dinner cruise.  I booked the first cruise that popped up and should have done more research.  The two hour dinner cruise traveled up and down the Tennessee River and was mostly geriatric.  But guess what, old people can be quite entertaining.  They stayed on the dance floor the entire time and even brought down the house boat with karaoke.  We were even forced to get up and dance.  So, I had my first dance on a geriatric cruise.  Are you jealous?

Ruby Falls
On Day 2, we took an incline train up Lookout Mountain.  All I have to say is WTF.  At first, the train ride is gradual then it goes straight up in the air.  The train is specifically designed for this and is pulled by ropes.  Once at the top, I spent more time on the wall and at the gift shop then the observation deck.  The ride down was worse, lol. After, we grabbed food, shopped at the local flea market, visited the aquarium, then went to Ruby Falls.  From the brochure, I thought we would just drive up to the cave.  In reality, we had to drive up the mountain then take an elevator 260 feet down! We walked another 1100 feet down the dark, wet, and at sometimes, tight cave before making it to the actual waterfall.  Let me paint a picture, I am in a cave with red lips and nails, ripped jeans and a cute faux fur vest in a dirty cave but I digress. Once at the water fall, we were given 5 minutes to take photos -_- A 35 minute walk for a 5 minute stop? After, we grabbed another bite to eat and was down for the night.  Can you say exhausted?

On the final day after breakfast, we went to the mall.  Nothing like shopping to make the trip feel balanced, lol.  After, we went to an even hire point of the mountain to Rock City.  I thought I was going to pee my pants on the ride up.  Rock City is an "enchanted" walking trail through the mountain, giant rocks and caves featuring random gnomes. In the middle of Rock City is a freakin cliff where you can see 7 different states.  SEVEN!  I told the husband, "this is bullshit and I'm ready to go." Lol. We finished the trail, made it to the bottom of the mountain, got on the road, stopped midway to eat at Pappadeux's (one of my favorite restaurants) and made it home super late which is why I am soooo tired.
Lover's Peak @ Rock City

Overall, I really had a blast. And, Chattanooga is as beautiful and scenic as they describe.  I wouldn't mind visiting again but I need to stay on the ground! :)

So...I bet you've seen the commercial for The Royals but like me your like, "I can do without another show on my roster."  Plus, most of us watch too much TV...  But, for some reason I was bored a few days ago and started watching and... let me just rewind a little and tell you what the show is about:

"The Royals is a juicy, hour-long drama from One Tree Hill creator Mark Schwahn that follows a fictional British royal family in modern London.  It's edgy, sexy, extreme and decadent-with cat fights and scandals galore." Source: E

Besides wanting to minimize TV watching, it airing on E made me give the side eye.  Sorry, but it's not my go to network, lol.  But I do love a British series... Skins anyone? Orphan Black?  Any who, after the first episode of Royals, I was hooked.  Princess Eleanor is an absolute mess but she's actually my favorite character.  I'm not going to gossip too much because I want you to give it a try.

Sunday is a big night for television so it's highly likely that this will be something I catch "on demand." #sorrynotsorry  But for those of you who can, The Royals air Sundays 10|9c.  For more, visit E.

PREMARITAL COUNSELING IS OVER!!! Thank gosh, lol.  It is the most annoying but necessary process.  Although I stated this in the first post, I just want to reiterate that I appreciated taking counseling from a relationship expert who we did not know versus the church which I've pretty much generalized because there can be hints of misogyny and I did not need that to enter our relationship...

Read: The 411 on My Marriage Counseling

Most consider us to be the "ideal" case since we aren't bringing any kids to the table, don't shack, and haven't been previously married. However, we do bring student loan debt.  It's going to be nearly impossible to come into a marriage perfect, this is not 1933.  Because we informed the counselor that we would be pushing our nuptials up, we needed specifics.  How do we start this off right and how can we sustain?  Two books were recommended to us: Things I Wish I'd Known Before We Got Marriedand His Needs, Her Needs: Building an Affair-Proof Marriage

Side note: I found these books sort of depressing but since it discusses the realities of marriage, it helps to read them.

So in my personal, non-trained relationship expert opinion, it helps if you know your mate well, that your future plans align, and that no one is in your business (friends and family).  Develop a financial plan and ensure you keep working at your marriage like you would do anything else you really want. Don't take your partner for granted, keep dating, and remember that counseling isn't reserved for marriage planning.  I intend to use it once or twice a year and financial counseling is also an ongoing process because we're trying to be ballers.  Know what I'm saying?

So, I came across an article regarding Buddhify 3xs so I figured it was a sign that I should try it out. After all, I have been struggling to meditate and could afford to be a little more zen...  Side note: I totally used the word "zen" wrong.

Any who, Buddhify is available to iOS and Android users and is an "award-winning mindfulness app with over 80+ guided meditations custom-made for wherever you are and whatever you're doing- traveling, at work, at home, going to sleep and much more.  All for the price of a cup of coffee with no hidden extra charges."

So, I've had the opportunity to use the app twice: at bed time and while walking to work.  At bed time, I choose "Going to Sleep" and picked Fade (12 mins). Between ear buds and the app's constant taking, I thought there was no way that I would fall asleep. In contrast, I don't think I made it past 5 mins before falling asleep...  Secondly, while walking to work, I selected "Walking in City" then chose Still (12 mins).  I don't think this one was as effective since I was carrying a boatload of stuff with me.  Then, my Dad called me and I spent the remainder of my walk gossiping.  Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to getting my $4.99 + tax worth.

For a walk through of the app, click here!

Namaste, tricks.

Slim Lip Pencils by NYX
I have built quite the makeup collection over the years.  Let's see, I have primers, mattifiers, brow kits, eye shadows, blushes, liquid and powder foundations, lipsticks, eyeliners, blot powders, brushes, etc.  Whew!  But, it turns out that lip liners also serve a very important function; especially, if your lipstick tends to bleed like a lot of mine do -_-

Benefits of using lip liners:
  • As stated previously, it prevents your lipstick from bleeding and smudging.
  • It defines lips and gives the appearance of plumper lips but don't get all Kylie Jenner on me
  • Lip liners can serve as a primer and help lipstick last all day.  Before applying lipstick, color/fill-in your lips then, apply lipstick.
  • Lip liners can help you create an ombre look; although, I think this trend may be a little dated...
PSA: Please stop wearing black liners guys.  I'm not sure how or why that trend has lasted so long.  It looked crazy back then and definitely is unacceptable now.  But hey, I am not without fault.  I used to line my lips with a dark brown pencil. Shhh, don't tell anyone.

If you're just starting out like me and don't want to spend a grip on liners, checkout NYX's lip liners. Their pencils are really good, cheap and available pretty much everywhere.  For more, visit Ulta

No one told me that my face would go through various changes. I thought puberty was it but it seems like puberty comes around every five years for me, lol.  As a result, my facial products have evolved as my skin finds reasons to defy me.

My makeup artist friend (Hey Ashley) suggested Rodan + Fields's Micro- Dermabrasion Paste. Here's a description:

"ENHANCEMENTS Micro-Dermabrasion Paste is a high-glide, oil-free formula designed to promote maximum gentle exfoliation.  Use intermittently to enhance cell turnover and improve skin tone and texture.  Lucy Magazine reports that it smooths away rough spots."

So...I really did not want to try this, lol.  I have a good routine going but Ashley is very convincing and she always makes great recommendations.  Plus, she gave me a free sample so...why not? Unlike most facial products, this smells pretty good.  I've been using it for about  a month, every couple of days with my night routine.  The results include smooth skin.  It may be contributing to my even skin tone but, I'm also using a host of Murad products and I take supplements for my skin.  Last but not least, the retail price of $78 bucks is why I won't be in a rush to purchase this.  Maybe when I become a baller or something...  Ashley, girl...I need another sample, lol.

So, my university offers free gym classes.  On another note, I'm sure the gym membership is wedged somewhere in our tuition...  Any who, I received the gym schedule a while back and since I'm done with comps and traveling, I thought...why not?

Upon arrival, I saw a few pervs lurking in the doorway which made me super uncomfortable... Seriously, don't do that guys!  There was the Zumba Instructor (a Raven Symone look alike) and ONE student! Maybe everyone is still on spring break *shoulder shrug* So, I got in formation and as time went by, more students trickled in.

My classmates included an old couple and I just knew the wife drug him there.  Maybe he needs to shed a few pounds or take care of his health but him dropping it low is not the way.  She should have let him get on a treadmill or stepper instead of making him clap his cheeks like the rest of us. A few minutes after, a few undergraduates trotted in so with my competitiveness and past experience as a dancer forced me to "turn up." I was captain of my High school dance team my senior year... And don't forget, this is my first zumba class but I'm in an imaginary competition with everyone.

Zumba included a combination of aerobics and dancing.  There was a lot of popping that thing, shimmying and salsa.  Half way through, I tried unsuccessfully to locate the clock to figure out how much more of it I had to go through but I powered on since I liked most of the music.

After the 45 min class, I felt energized, fulfilled my 37 active minutes goal and over 5,7000+ steps on Fitbit.  I'm looking forward to the next class.

Side note: The Zumba instructor DID NOT commend me on my Zumba skills.  Is she intimidated? Lol.

What is branding?

My definition of branding is the process of creating a unique experience that excites a person’s sight (through logos, symbols, ads and other visual identity), hearing (through recognizable sounds, music, etc.), and feeling (through their emotions and customer interaction).  Branding is about positioning your brand to be identifiable and remembered.  The key to this is to focus on your customer’s/client’s needs and wants. You want your customers/clients familiar, comfortable, trusting and loyal to your brand.  And in order to get these things, your brand has to be relevant to their needs and wants as well as cohesive.  Every element of your brand from your messaging to your business card has to work together and make sense.  The process of branding is making your brand the leader and preferred choice among your competitors.  Think about your favorite fashion brand or fast food restaurant, what is the first brand that comes to mind?  Now think about why you chose that brand.  Is it because of the taste, the customer service, the look, the funny ads, the joy you feel when you encounter it, the ease to purchase or eat/wear it, or the price point?  You should want your business to have the same positive response and thoughts.

So, the description of this book is pretty simple: "A collection of text posts from tumblr user pinkvelourtracksuit"  It explicitly covers thoughts on aesthetics, random s***, pop culture, goals, notes to herself and readers, life as a blogger and other subject-matters I won't mention since my parents occasionally read my blog, lol.

I'm excited to buy this book and glad its available via paperback. I think it would make a great coffee table book.  You know, something that could spur intelligent dialogue...if I actually invited people over to my apartment.  But I don't, it would require me to keep it clutter free and I don't feel like it.

Any who, this book retails for 6 bucks and some change: The Bible For Black Girls: a collection of texts posts from tumblr user pinkvelourtracksuit

Best Of PFW Fall 2015, The Broke Girl's Guide to Cozy Decor & 9 Shops Every French Woman Knows

I'm back.  In the event you guys didn't read the post a couple of weeks ago, I had a conference in Chicago and it was a freaking blast.  Any who, on Saturday, I noticed I was out of my brow pencil so I passed by M-A-C to buy another one.  However, the makeup artist suggested their Fluidline Brow Gelcreme instead.

Description: "Long-wearing waterproof gel in a pot for giving precise definition to brows.  Applies smoothly, sets quickly for the ultimate well-groomed brow.  Fills, lengthens and shapes for subtle to dramatic looks." Source: M-A-C

So, I guess the makeup artist who suggested this had some downtime and wanted to show me what the gel could do.  The results were horrendous.  They were a little too dark and gel-like for my taste.  They were very bitter, irate, resentful and made me feel unapproachable.  I felt like my brows were staring people down and screaming "f*** off" to everyone who walked past me.  In contrast, I've always been curious about brow gel and knew I could fix it.  So...I bought it.  My brows have been more calm since I've been doing them.  In sum, I recommend the gel, lol.

Fluidline Brow Gelcreme retails for 16 bucks and can be purchased at M-A-C

So, I usually keep a small bottle of water mixed with oils that I get from a vendor at my local flea market but they don't except cards and ain't nobody got time to always run to an ATM and back to purchase a tiny spray bottle filled with oils I can probably purchase on my own...  Any who, it was easier to find the more commercial version of it at Ulta, lol.

OGX had a host of sprays to choose from.  I stood there a good 10 minutes before selecting Moroccan Argan Oil Weightless Healing Dry Oil. Description: "This exotic precious blend of Moroccan argan oil spray instantly infuses hair with an allover veil of shine, heals and mends split ends, gives color and highlights a multifaceted glow and prevents static flyaways. This exotic precious blend of Moroccan argan oil weightless healing oil spray, instantly heals split ends, creating soft frizz-free perfection while protecting your hair from harmful styling heat and UV damage as it gives a smooth, glossy, shine.

  • Restores moisture
  • Weightless glossing mist instantly hydrates dry, parched hair
  • Helps heal split ends
  • Infused with argan oil to add allover veil of glossy shine

So, it's kind of hard to review something like this...  I just find comfort in not making my hair work hard to produce oils (in contrast to what the Sisterlocks guidelines have recommended).  And, as stated previously, there are a few other types of oil sprays: Anti-Breakage Keratin Oil Instant Repair Weightless Healing Oil, Nourishing Coconut Oil Weightless Hydrating Oil Mist, and Anti-Breakage Keratin Oil Instant Repair Weightless Healing Oil.

For reviews and to purchase: Organix: Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil, Weightless Healing Dry Oil, 4 oz

Last summer, I blogged about They're Real Push-up Liner by Benefit Cosmetics and I was super excited to try it, at first.  After reading and watching various reviews, I changed my mind... However, using Milani's micro liner was starting to annoy me so while at Ulta I thought, why not?

Description: "It's the first ever lash-hugging gel liner in a pen!  This matte black gel formula won't smudge, budge or dry out, and the innovative soft AccuFlex Tip hugs your lashline from corner to corner. The closer the line, the bigger the eye!"

This product also boasts that it lasts 24 hours and is waterproof, and you know what?  They're right! I thought I was going to need a jackhammer to remove this stuff.  Also, I didn't know how to get the gel out.  I should have read the directions but didn't... Surprise.  Surprise.  Once I did figure it out, it was hard to apply, at first.  After I got the hang of it, it's been my best friend.  I'm mean the liner is thick, jet black, perfect, and sexy, lol.

If you can give up your gas or coffee money for a week, it's worth the investment.  For pictures, how-to videos and reviews, visit Benefit.

DIY Delpozo Gold Striped Nails, 10 Hacks to Get the Most Out of Your Mascara & How to Get Rid of Back-of-the Arms Bumps

Monday, March 2, 2015

I think this new collection was released sometime in January but I'm not sure so don't quote me, lol. Any who, this collection features 6 neutrals in a "satin formula, a hybrid between matte and glossy polishes and is not intended to be worn with a top coat."

The colors can be described as almond, lavender, mauve, grey, taupe, and green.  I selected Brittany (Rose Mauve).

So let's go back to the description and instructions:

Not intended to be worn with a top coat...

Not intended to be worn with a top coat.

Guess who has on a top coat?  Lol.  So, let me explain why.  It took me approximately 2.5 hours to remove the glitter nail polish I had on.  Once removed, I kind of rushed to polish my nails but this texture requires you to slow down and take your time.  Because I didn't...because I was tired of sitting on the floor, I had some streaks that I know would bother me. So, I added a top coat to smooth it out making my nails look like ordinary mauve-colored nails.  But they're still cute, lol.  I'm thinking about re-polishing them later this week and will post a picture on Instagram (if I do).
