"Do you know what today is? It's our anniversary, anniversary."  I actually sung this as I typed it out, lol.  For those of you who don't know, it's a Tony Toni Tone song.  Get your lives together!  Any who, today makes one year of me with Sisterlocks *insert cheers here*

In the event you don't know what Sisterlocks are, read Top 8 Questions Asked About My Sisterlocs, Six Months of Sisterlocks, and The Who, What, Where, Why & When of Sisterlocks.

Shout out to my mom (hey Jill), for recommending these because I was honestly over my hair.  Hair can be such a task and #aintnobodygottimeforthat

It's just so great putting little to no effort into hair maintenance.  I just tie up my hair at night and shake in the morning.  I wash my hair every two weeks and dye it every five weeks before my retightening.  Sisterlocks requires no product use, although, I do occasionally spray a water and oil mist.  PLEASE DON'T TELL THE SISTERLOCK POLICE! And of course, I've had a tone of hair growth!  In contrast, my hair hasn't fully locked yet.  You guys see those thin and curly ends *rolls eyes*  And, Sisterlocks are the most expensive among it's loc'd counterparts but they're also the most unique and versatile.  You can curl them, flatiron them, etc.

Have I sold you on them?  No?  Who cares, lol!  Find out what works for you and wish me happy anniversary :)  This isn't about you... *rolls eyes again*

Hey guys, I'm supposed to be studying for the last day of my comprehensive exam but guess what?  I don't feel like it, lol.  Any who, I passed by Ulta a few hours ago to pick up more sugar scrub (read Scrub A Dub Body Scrub) and body butter but they didn't have the scrub I usually use; however, they did have a boatload of this detoxifying salt scrub so I thought, what the hell?

Details: "Mediterranean Salt Scrub, Black salt, derived from Dead Sea with added active charcoal High percentage of magnesium, sulfates, and potassium that help treat dry skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis.  Charcoal helps draw out environmental toxins."

So remember that "so I thought, what the hell?" That's a fairly accurate description of my experience, lol.  First, this crap stinks.  I mean it's just a really weird smell and I can't wait for it to fade.  Secondly, I absolutely HATE the texture of this stuff.  It was all thick, gooey, and blah and yeah, I didn't like it...  In contrast, my skin feels pretty damn good.  Considering that I do suffer from eczema, I suppose I'll keep using it.  After all, I need to get my entire $8.99 worth.  And, this is a pretty good portion so it's going to take
F O R E V E R to finish it.

If I haven't completely scared you off, read reviews and purchase Detoxifying Mediterranean Salt Scrub Stink Fig & Olive at Ulta.

Side note: I still smell it.  It's been like 40 minutes and I still smell like stink fig!

Today was Day 1 of my doctoral exams.  Basically, it's like the hunger games but for academia an exam on everything I've learned over the past few years.  No hints, tips, notes or direction...  I've been prepping for this exam since May and opted out last October.  This time I had to do it.  I am soooo tired of being in school, lol.  As a result, I won't be blogging this week.  I have a conference that starts the end of next week to the beginning of the week after so my blogging will be spotty. Nonetheless, I have a host of old posts you can sift through.  You guys know you haven't read everything -_-

And check out all of my blogs: Blogger, Wordpress and Tumblr!  And you know I need friends so like Pink Gumbeaux on Facebook and follow me onTwitter and Instagram.  Do it now!

Kid Fury
Do you guys remember that time I was trying to be all healthy and said I would replace coffee with tea?  Tea drinkers just seem so refined, adult and wholesome... Well, that didn't go too well.  No one told me that tea tastes and smells like Petco.  Its like guinea pig food compressed into a little bag with a string but I digress.

On last week, I started feeling a bit ill.  In particular, my throat was killing me.  I had the flu during the New Years holiday so I thought I met my annual sick quota.  So eventually my throat went from being itchy to full out sore, I even had trouble swallowing.  So a friend (hey Cassandra) recommended that I drink tea and I was like, nope... That ain't going to work.  The next day another friend (hey Almesha) told me to buy ginger tea and I was like fine.  It's worth a try because I was not trying to go to the doctor. My little bro has a pretty big stash of tea and had ginger tea just as I suspected.  After the first two cups, I started feeling better. By day 2, I no longer had a sore throat.  Since then, I have been drinking two cups of ginger lemon tea (especially with this psycho weather).

Admittedly, I'm late to the awkward black girl movement even though I hear we have a lot in common.  I mean, I'm awkward and an introvert.  I also loathe the human race. I don't know if we have that in common, lol.

The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl features "a collection of humorous essays on what it’s like to be unabashedly awkward in a world that regards introverts as hapless misfits, and black as cool.  Rae covers everything from cybersexing in the early days of the Internet to deflecting unsolicited comments on weight gain, from navigating the perils of eating out alone and public displays of affection to learning to accept yourself—natural hair and all."

I've added this to my Amazon wishlist because I have entirely too many books that I have not read.  I also need to check out her series.  And, I hear she's developing a pilot for HBO which makes me uber excited.  I love HBO shows such as Girls.  All my favorite series have been axed but that's neither here nor there.  Any who, you can purchase and check out reviews on Amazon.

About two weeks ago, I blogged about the new face mask craze: Indian Healing Clay. For the rundown on this product, read here.

So about 4 days after blogging, I tried the face mask.  The clay comes in powder form and requires water and apple cider.  Reading is fundamental.  I didn't have any apple cider so I did without.  I applied the missing-a-key-ingredient face mask to not only my face but my little brother and fiance's face. My brother was ok with being my guinea pig but my fiance was pissed, lol!  He kept complaining about the tightness and burning.  Thanks for being a trooper Akili :) Despite missing the apple cider, this stuff really cleared my face of the few tiny bumps I had.  My fiance's face looked pretty good too.  He had a dry patch which disappeared by morning.

Yesterday, I tried again with the apple cider. Unfortunately, I didn't have any additional guinea pigs this time...  The apple cider added a little fizzle to the clay but try not to let that scare you, lol.  I applied the mask before showering and removed while in the shower.  After removal, I didn't add anything.  No toner.  No moisturizer.  I usually wait until the morning to judge the results of a mask. This morning I woke up to nearly perfect skin.  I had a few small hormonal pimples and all but one disappeared.  Stubborn little jerk. Any who, I love this stuff.  Even my expensive-ass Murad face mask doesn't have this effect.  Check out Amazon for additional reviews and to order.

Hard Rock
So, I've come to the realization that I can't do any better than Deborah Lippmann when it comes to nail care essentials. Last week, I had just a smidge of  Deborah Lippmann Addicted To Speed Top Coat left so I mixed it with a Sally Hansen topcoat and that was a biiiiig mistake. My nails were trash, lol.  This made me come to the conclusion that I need to invest in not only a good top coat but a base coat which brings me to why we're all here: DL's Hard Rock (Base and Top Coat Nail Strengthening).

Description: A rock solid choice to strengthen and protect, this protein-rich treatment encourages healthy nail growth.  It's especially beneficial for weak nails or post gel and artificial nail removal. Apply a think layer over bare nails, or use as a base or top coat. For best results of nail strengthening, apply a thin layer the next day and every day until you change your nail polish.

My sort of kind of review:  It will be very hard to determine how effective this is.  I'm leaning on DL's reputation.  I usually take hair, nail and skin vitamins along with MSM which contributes to the durability of my and length of my nails.  Although, I am not consistent with vitamin intake.  Overall, I think it's worth the investment.  I use a variety of nail polishes (mostly cheap) and DL makes my manicure look professional and it lasts at least 7 days. Disclaimer: I don't wash dishes.  Any who, Hard Rock retails for 20 bucks.  For more info, visit Deborah Lippmann

The owner of this company has to be a kindred spirit... Any who, "Send Glitter to People You Hate," allows you to anonymously send a snarky greeting with a boat load of glitter to someone you hate.

Just take a few seconds to think about gets everywhere and takes forever to clean up.  A month later, glitter will still be seen in the most random places, somewhere the glitter didn't even fall. This is genius! *insert evil laugh here"

Listen, a list of people instantly popped up in my head when I saw this. However, whenever there's a evil prank, people usually assume it's me. 10 times out of 10, they're right.  If I'm found out, I'll just say "just kidding," or "I thought you would find it fun" but deep down inside, I sent it because I can't stand you!

Your glittery revenge will cost you $9.99 and boy is it worth it, lol. Seriously, this is making me all giddy.

Premarital counseling is said to help you get the party marriage started off right.  I had done research prior so I felt like I knew what to expect and was not really looking forward to it...  First, I did not want a pastor to provide counseling.  Yes, I said it.  I did not want to be in a misogynistic counseling session with biblical references.  My fiance has accepted me but I'm not sure if the pastor would if he knew me, for real. So luckily, he recommended that we get counseling from professionals, thank gosh!

We were given two counselors: premarital and financial.  The premarital counselor asked if we had been married before, if we shacked, had kids and our financial situation. We breezed past everything but the finances. The fiance has a master's degree and I'm still working on my PhD so student debt is nearly impossible to avoid.  She gave us a major side eye but this is not the 1960's when she was in school, education is expensive.  If you're sensing shade, you're correct, lol.  She asked us to outline five expectations we had, to communicate more, and work on individual goals. Interestingly, there are traits he has that I need to adopt and traits I have that he needs to adopt.  We have about three more premarital counseling sessions.

This product has been making the rounds so I thought I'll do a little research and share with you guys.

This miracle clay is described as "bentonite clay from Death Valley, California, where it's sun-dried for up to six months in temperatures that sometimes reach 134 degrees."  *insert a bunch of scientific talk that no one cares about here*  Overall, "when a facial or clay poultice is applied to the skin it forms a negative charge.  Poisons and toxins stored in the epidermis have a positive charge - Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay lifts the pimple and blackheads into the clay bed to cause accelerated healing and nourishment to the skin with over 50 minerals."

Oh yeah and its natural but I think you already knew that....

I thought there would be some info on applying it to hair but there wasn't.  I saw a post where a girl applied it to her whole head.  To me, it would be too drying but that's her head not mine.

Any who, I'm thinking about giving it a try and maybe write a review because my face has been acting an ass lately.  There are several places you can buy it but Amazon seems to be the best place. To read reviews and purchase, visit Amazon.

This will be my final Fitbit Flex update.  I mean, what else is there to bitch about?  Lol.  For three weeks, I have consistently used Fitbit Flex *insert applause here* and I honestly look forward to the 10,000 step challenge every single day.

I take the steps oppose to the elevator.  I use half of my lunch break to walk.  Near the end of my day, I take another walk.  While it's not the best I can do, it's all I'm willing to give for the next month or so *Kanye shrug*

If you've got the money, Fitbit Flex is still worth the investment.  It keeps you on your toes and makes you want to make an effort.  In the upcoming weeks, I hope to get more serious about tracking my eating habits and water intake.  Key word "HOPE."  I'm still not tracking my sleep (ain't nobody got time for that) but am using the silent alarm clock.  I just love it.

In contrast to what I said a couple of weeks ago, I may have to invest in more bands or band accessories. I didn't take it off last week and can see the effect soap and water has on it.  It's not terribly visible but may look like total crap in another couple of months.  Plus, I wouldn't mind not having to stare at this ugly band.  Who designed this?
