I. Love. Diane von Furstenberg.  First, she is the inventor of the wrap dress.  Secondly, she is the definition of regal.  Thirdly, her accessory game is always on point, lol.  Any who, I've been in love with her clothes for years, although, I cant afford any of them *wipes tears from eyes*

Moving on, House of DVF is a docu-series following eight women competing for a chance to work as a Global Brand Ambassador for Diane von Furstenberg and from the preview, these women appear to be a hot mess which will make this show that much better, lol.

Side note: Although the series premieres November 2nd on E, the first episode is available on DVF.  And, although I'm slighting judging women who don't know who she is, I've decided to link her bio.

Kim Kardashian's Best 2014 Looks, 11 Puffer Vests for Men & Winged Eyeshadow

My coworker who also doubles as a makeup artist recommended this product to me.  At first, I didn't want to try this because I use a lot of  products to combat oil.  Let's count them off...
  1. Murad's Oil-Control Mattifier
  2. M·A·C's Prep + Prime Skin Refined Zone
  3. M·A·C's Prep + Prime Skin Base Visage
And don't forget M·A·C's Blot Powder Pressed (after I apply foundation) and now another step?  *shoulder shrug* I am now into a month of using this product and I'm glad I did.  Don't I always say that? Lol.

Product Description: A matte-ifying cream that acts like a powder, M·A·C Matte adds a sheer, no-shine matte texture in one smooth layer. May be used on bare or made-up skin. Use a latex sponge or a 252 Large Shader Brush to apply over the entire face or in the T-zone to reduce the appearance of shine. Apply M·A·C Matte after moisturizer, but before foundation to prime the skin for makeup. Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation applies smoothly and effortlessly over top of M·A·C Matte.

Sort of kind of review, but not really: I like this.  I didn't need it (because I have a lot of products that help me with oil); however, it's pretty cool to have because I don't have to apply blot powder in the afternoon.  Even when I was in hot and humid Louisiana a few weeks ago my makeup stayed and oil didn't break through.  I would def recommend this in the event you don't have a primer and you're oily.  For more, visit  M·A·C.

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting Isashaka Monaleaux, owner of It's Butter Baby where samples were passed out.  I fell in love with this product and thought I'd give you guys the opportunity to do the same.  Check out the interview!

Pink Gumbeaux (PG): How was “It’s Butter Baby” conceived?

It’s Butter Baby (IBB): By word of mouth!  Lol. After growing tired of paying for prescription creams, an African woman suggested Shea butter.  It actually worked but it was so thick and waxy, and my children disliked the natural scent of it.  I also wanted to use it in my hair so I created a freeze/melting process and whipped it like a mousse.  My mom wanted it, my sisters, my husband and even the African woman that introduced me to Shea wanted it!

6 Minute TYOver
Tyra Banks has launched a beauty line...that makes sense.  Products include mascara, lipstick, contouring sticks, eyeliner, eye shadow and more.  The prices may not be as cheap as you would like them (ranging from $24- $34.50 for individual products) but it's probably worth it.  She's been in the game a long time and probably wouldn't put her name on anything unless it's perfect.

And if you visit, you'll see a series of "tips and tricks" on how to create the fiercest cat eye, eyes and cheeks, and how to use the sculpting/contouring sticks.

Last but not least, if you really really really like her line and love makeup, consider joining her team.

Side note: I love the names of her beauty products (Smack My Fat Lashes, What Lipstick and Oops Liner) and of course it's not just's beautytainment and badassery, lol.

While waiting to checkout at Sephora, I thumbed through the products they slap in the front to make you spend more money worked.  I picked up No Cosmetic's No Bleeding Lips-Secret Lip Liner.

  • What it is: A clear lip liner that creates an invisible line around the lips.
  • What it does: This clear lip liner goes with any shade of lipstick or gloss, especially bright and bold colors, creating a sheer defined lip shape to stop bleeding and feathering.
  • What else you need to know: This liner also doubles as a line filler, essential for those who have deep lines around the lips. Secret Lip Liner acts as a temporary filler, minimizing the appearance of furrows in corners of the mouth.
So...where has this product been all my life?  I tried to avoid liners but the reality is that it's needed.  The cheaper (and best) alternative is to use this liner which works with all lipsticks and glosses.  I've been using it for a week and I love it.  Even more, it retails for only 15 bucks.

The reviews I read are mixed and I have yet to experience issues they discussed.  I mean, it's 15 bucks so I'm not expecting it to cartwheels across my lips, I just want it to do what it advertises...  For more, visit Sephora.

Twelve Oaks Plantation
I'm back in the blogsphere a little quicker than we intended.  Pull up a chair so I can explain why.
Last Thursday, I decided not to take the doctoral comprehensive exam?  Why?  Because I was not ready.  I didn't want to walk into an exam that I wouldn't ace.  If I failed one (or all parts), I would have to take it over in five months anyway...  Secondly, I was in a rush.  I've been in school my entire life and completing school would allow me to get to other things such as relocating and starting my dream career.  Last but not least, I thought people would be disappointed in me.  I'm 29 and could've received my PhD before I'm 30.  That's something my family, friends, professors and even me could brag about.  However, last Thursday I had a major meltdown.  This is when I knew that I had put too much pressure on myself.  That maybe I should not be rushing through life putting all my happiness into academic and professional advancement.  And guess what, 99% of the people I told that I delayed the exam didn't think anything of it.  There was no pressure coming from anywhere but me.
By Friday, I was a total mess.  I have never been so disappointed in myself.  My face was puffy because I had not received proper sleep that entire week.  I was stressed and had been staying up late to study.  Although my birthday was that upcoming Sunday, I had already planned in my head that I would spend the entire weekend wallowing in self-pity and binge watching TV.  Maybe I would get up for brunch on my birthday but that was about it.  Unfortunately and fortunately, my boyfriend had other plans for me.  The following day, we took a road trip to Houma, LA to stay at a B&B.

While at a restaurant last week, the boyfriend and me ordered Spinach Au Gratin and it was a bit...blah.  Being from New Orleans, most food outside of New Orleans isn't flavorful to me.  Surprise Surprise.  Any who, I thought I could take a better stab at it...

On Sunday, the little bro and I looked up recipes that were a little to complex for me and required too many ingredients so we decided to put our own spin on it.  This is what you'll need:
  • 2 bags (or boxes) of spinach
  • Parmesan cheese (small bag)
  • Crème of Mushroom with Roasted Garlic
  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Butter
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Paprika
  • Sharp cheddar
  • Milk
Step 1: Boil water in preparation for spinach.  This is a great time to chop a quarter of an onion (is this correct culinary lango?) and chop three cloves of garlic from the garlic bulb.  In a separate skillet, add butter in preparation to sautéed vegetables.

Step 2: Once spinach is cooked, drain and add back to pot.  Add sautéed vegetables, a dash of salt, pepper and paprika.  Add crème of mushroom with 1/3 cup of milk.  Add bag of parmesan cheese and stir until melted and creamy.

Optional Step: Serve as is or pour into baking pan add sharp cheese on top and bake until light brown.

In my opinion, this is the best creamed spinach I've ever tasted but then again, it's my opinion, lol.
