PRIMETIME WITH URBAN DECAY'S EYESHADOW PRIMER POTION

Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Original
It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday *insert high note here*

I've finally decided to move on to  a new eyeshadow primer (sorry MAC) and I chose Urban Decay.  You can never go wrong with their products plus, their tube looked cool so why not? Lol.

Description:

Apply before your eyeshadow for more vibrant CREASE-FREE color that lasts for 24 hours. Eyeshadow Primer Potion is coveted by makeup artists and makeup junkies alike because it guarantees more vibrant eyeshadow that lasts for 24 hours and NEVER CREASES! Once you experience its powers (plus how smoothly it glides on – an added bonus) you'll never want to live without it. Original formula dries down invisibly, while Eden, Sin and Greed are shades that can also be worn as shadows or highlighters!

My Sort of Kind of Review:

I took baby steps with this product.  Instead of buying the full size, I bought a sample size for $12 from Ulta.  Secondly, all you need is a dab.  This stuff instantly coated my eyelid (and absorbed all oil).  I layered a couple of eyeshadows from the NYX's Natural Shadow Palette, added a cat eye and perfection.  On the other hand, this stuff is tough to get off but that's a good problem to have. And like the description said, no creases!

While I chose the original primer, there's three others: Sin, Eden and Greed.  For more info, visit Urban Decay.

Side note: If you didn't catch the above reference, it's from a popular song that was featured on an old movie by the name of "Cooley High."

SO NICE I HAD TO POST IT TWICE: SEPHORA'S DYNAMIC DUO FACE BRUSH

A year ago, I wrote a post about the alternative to all face brushes: Sephora's Dynamic Duo Face Brush.  My Olay face brush had finally given up on me so I thought I'd upgrade to a Clarosonic.  However, Clarosonic is expensive and doesn't allow the use of any exfoliator beads.  Apparently, the beads can jam the face brush head.  I use an exfoliator every night and an acne wash every morning so paying all of that money to use the brush part-time was out of the question.

While at Sephora, I noticed another brush...  It was quite bare but for 16 bucks, it was worth a try!

Product Description:

"A dual-ended face brush to cleanse your pores to perfection.  Cleanse and refresh your complexion with this innovative tool, complete with a slip-proof grip. The nylon bristles clear trapped oil and bacteria from pores and the domed silicone brush exfoliates and sloughs off dead skin cells. The skin is left smooth and delightfully bright."

Of course my experience cannot be summarized as eloquently as Sephora's description but I think it's a great (cheap) investment.  And, the fact that I don't have to worry about it jamming, batteries running dead or it breaking is great.  It's also super easy to clean.

MY FIRST CROSSFIT CLASS

Source: Wikipedia
While on a walking trail last week, the boyfriend and me spotted a CrossFit gym and decided to walk in. The gym looked more like a warehouse, had no central air but two giant fans.  The equipment looked bare.  The instructor gave us a brief overview of CrossFit which is described as:

CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program with the aim of improving, among other things, cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy. It advocates a perpetually varied mix of aerobic exercise, gymnastics (body weight exercises), and Olympic weight lifting. CrossFit Inc. describes its strength and conditioning program as “constantly varied functional movements executed at high intensity across broad modal and time domains," with the stated goal of improving fitness, which it defines as "work capacity across broad time and modal domains."  Hour-long classes at affiliated gyms, or "boxes", typically include a warm-up, a skill development segment, the high-intensity "workout of the day" (or WOD), and a period of individual or groupstretching. Some gyms also often have a strength focused movement prior to the WOD. Performance on each WOD is often scored and/or ranked to encourage competition and to track individual progress. Some affiliates offer additional classes, such as Olympic weightlifting, which are not centered around a WOD.

NAIL'D IT!

I have a new show for you, a very different show.

“Nail’d It” pits 18 of the best up-and-coming nail artists against one another as they claw their way to the top to claim a life-changing grand prize of $100,000.  In each episode, the talented contestants will face-off crafting flawless flat paint designs and over-the-top 3D masterpieces using everything from lacquers, gels and acrylics to embellishments and unorthodox materials.  The winners and runners up from the first six episodes will compete in a high-stakes four-part finale until only one artist is left standing to win the grand prize and opportunity to have their designs featured in a cover story for Nail It! magazine.

The show premieres Tuesday, October 7 at 9pm ET/PT.

So, you want to hear something funny?  I don't have the Oxygen channel.  One day it was there and then it wasn't.  I'll have to look to you guys for episode recaps, lol.

SISTERLOCKS ESSENTIALS

Me & My Baby Bun
In my opinion, beginning Sisterlocks is very similar to "going natural."  To assist with the transition, there are a few essentials that have made my life easier.

  • Bobby Pins.  Bobby Pins are great for styling, pinning your locks down, pinning them up, etc.
  • Rubber bands.  The need for rubber bands depend on your length.  I'm able to pull my hair into a bun. I bounce between rubber bands and bobby pins daily.
  • Hats.  I still love hats.  I'll throw my hair into two French braids and add fedora on top.  Fedoras are instantly chic!
  • Headbands, Head Chains & Flower Crowns.  Don't let locks/locs limit your ability to accessorize.  I especially love head chains.
  • Satin Scarfs & Satin Sleep Caps.  Satin scarfs can stylish but most importantly, they prevent breakage.  DO NOT GO TO SLEEP WITHOUT ONE!
Now isn't this a simple, easy and affordable list?  You're welcome :)

MAYBELLINE'S THE NUDES PALETTE IN THE NUDES

Unlike the NYX fiasco, I think Maybelline may have the nudes palette right.  Key word: "may"  The Nudes Palette In The Nudes is Maybelline's first 12 shade collection curated to create infinite looks with bold beiges, sultry sands, brazen bronzes, and over the top taupes.

At first glance, there is a great range of colors.
Further, this palette is affordable, will easily take you from a day to night and is great for travel.

Depending on where you purchase it from, it can retail for 9 bucks and some change to eleven bucks.  Of course, Walmart will be the cheaper option.

Pro tip: Use eye shadow primer!!!

For more info and reviews, visit Maybelline.

ABOUT DAMN TIME| NUBIAN SKIN

To shade, or not to shade, that is the question.  Finally, a company to produce nude lingerie and hosiery for women of color!

About:

"A nude bra, skin-tone tights / pantyhose – basics of every woman’s wardrobe.  In theory…It’s the grand debate, what do I wear under a white or sheer blouse? What colour hosiery will go with these amazing shoes? Black just isn’t going to work.  The simple answer is nude.  But my nude isn’t the nude I see in shops.  Despite the reality that women of colour have the same needs as all women when it comes to lingerie and hosiery (and spend the same of their hard-earned money), the industry simply doesn’t cater to us.  So, I thought, it’s time to rethink the definition of nude.  Thus, Nubian Skin was born."

Source

Nubian Skin offers a collection of bras, panties, tights (pantyhose) and hold-ups in four skin-tones, and will be available online (shipping internationally) in October.  For more info, check out their blog.

Side note: If no one has told you yet, thank you Nubian Skin.

THE ALCHEMIST

I'm so happy that Oprah's Super Soul Sundays have returned.  It's like my version of church.  Any who, this episode featured Paulo Coelho and his novel, The Alchemist.

The Alchemist is the magical story of Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy who yearns to travel in search of a worldly treasure as extravagant as any ever found. From his home in Spain he journeys to the markets of Tangiers and across the Egyptian desert to a fateful encounter with the alchemist.

The story of the treasures Santiago finds along the way teaches us, as only a few stories have done, about the essential wisdom of listening to our hearts, learning to read the omens strewn along life's path, and, above all, following our dreams.
As of now, this book has sold 65 million copies, as of May 2014 has reached its 303rd consecutive week on The New York Times' bestseller list, and is the book a lot of celebrities swear by.  Apparently, it’s regarded as a life-changing book…
I downloaded my copy via Amazon Kindle and it only cost me $2.94!!!  I repeat, $2.94.  Currently, I’m reading the Art of War.  Hopefully, I’ll wrap it up in a week and move on to Alchemist.  Of course, I’m in school so it’s takes me more time to get through books.
Hopefully, I’ll be able to get you a review but don’t hold your breath…you guys who I’m a flake.

THE MANE CHOICE: MANETABOLISM HEALTHY HAIR VITAMIN

So, I ran across this brand on a social media network and decided to tell you guys about it.

"Manetabolism is a comprehensive dietary supplement designed to provide your body with the proper vitamin nourishment to maximize hair growth, thickness and health; while simultaneously boosting your energy level and strengthening your immune system. Every ingredient was selectively chosen not only by its beneficial relationship to what it has to offer the hair, but the body as a whole."

Source

So, I'm reading through everything, checking out the photos and testimonials and it reminds me of my Hairfinity experience.  I took those vitamins for nearly a year and didn't feel like it made a difference.  Most importantly, it is highly unlikely that I will change my diet or water consumption for hair growth.  Last but not least, spending 20 or 30 bucks for a pair of vitamins a month is...an expense that I deem necessary...  I'm just being real, keeping it 100.

SALLY HANSEN'S MEGA SHINE TOP COAT

I have such a love/hate relationship with Sally Hansen.  But, it is one of the oldest brands in the game and available everywhere so here we are...

I was in search of a high gloss topcoat but did not feel like traveling to my nearest Ulta or Sephora for one of my favorite brands; instead, I traveled 1 block to my local CVS.  After briefly scanning the wall of polishes, I settled on Sally Hansen's Mega Shine Top Coat.

Description

"An extended wear top coat that delivers brilliant shine. Advanced formula dries your manicure from top to bottom in just 60 seconds — no more smudges! Fuses and seals all your manicure layers into one powerful protective shield that resists chipping, cracking, peeling and damaging moisture. Micro-diamond formula adds mirror shine and strength."

Source

Overall, I like it.  At first, I didn't think it worked because the color I used dried glossy.  However, when I saw my nails on day two, I knew it worked.  They're super shinny.  The only theory I didn't test was the quick dry... but for 7 bucks or so, I think it's worth it!
