Karen Walker is best known for collections that are original, unpretentious and always optimistic. The label shows each season as part of New York Fashion Week.  Karen Walker collections are high casual, elevated with a signature love of print and colour. The reoccurring theme is juxtaposition of opposites — masculine and feminine, tailored and street, luxury and non-luxury, dark and super-cute.

The label has been described by the U.K.’s Independent newspaper as being “The kind of look that provides a means of appearing cool but not trying-too-hard, cute but not saccharine, alternative but not self consciously so.”

In addition to the main women’s-wear collections there is also Karen Walker Jewellery, Karen Walker Eyewear, Karen Walker Homeware, Karen Walker Paints and a series of collaborations including Beau Coops for Karen Walker footwear, Benah for Karen Walker bags and BePositive for Karen Walker sneakers.

Ugh, I love everything about Karen Walker (especially the eyewear, accessories, shoes, lets just say everything!) but I am too damn poor to afford 99.8% of every.single.item!  But, that doesn't have to stop you from checking her out (you baller you).  Shop here!  Also, check out her cool eyewear campaign, here!

Habit Cosmetics

New polish alert!!!  Let's just take a stare at this beautiful bottle...with it's wooden handle...  Ok, about this brand:

While creating color stories for shoes at a major American footwear company, Aja Frierson became obsessed with how small pops of color enhance an entire look. At the same time, she fell in love with the ritual of painting her nails, but found that traditional nail polish left her nails weak and damaged. Aja set out to create an alternative. After two years and many rounds of experimenting to develop the perfect formula, the first Habit collection was born in June of 2013.

Habit gives you the gorgeous color you crave AND strengthens your nails, all without the harmful chemicals found in other brands.

Habit naturally strengthens nails with Myrrh extract. Myrrh reinforces nails to give them more flexibility without the brittleness you get from chemical nail hardeners. Myrrh is also anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal.
Habit is free of Formaldehyde, Toluene, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP) and Camphor, and is made without animal testing.
Habit is packaged as sustainably as possible. We are the only nail polish made with a bamboo overcap. It adds to the beauty of our polish and means that we use less plastic. Habit is packaged in FSC Certified paperboard produced through sustainable forestry.

Between this nail polish being free of harsh chemicals and promoting healthy nails, plus the cute and eco nail polish bottle, I can understand why it retails for 18 bucks.  Looks like this is another request I will be making to my mommy :)  Shop here!

So...I got rid of my spa membership a while ago and decided to test a few face mask brands as an alternative.  Gosh, I miss my membership!!!  Any who, I've already tried Que Bella and decided to try a Freeman mask.  There's not any real reason why I choose this one, I don't know...maybe because it's chocolate *shoulder shrug*

Details: This indulgent mask does more than tantalize your taste buds! Tone skin and diminish the appearance of large pores with oil-absorbing clays. Delight in delectable Chocolate and Strawberry while Shea and Cocoa Butter moisturize for smoother, softer skin. Perfect for normal to dry skin.

Key Ingredients:
  • Shea Butter
  • Cocoa Butter
  • Kaolin Clay

  • Source

So, the cool thing about this brand is that you have the option to buy a sample pack (pictured above) or a full size.  I actually think the sample size can get up to 3 uses so I would recommend that before purchasing the full size.

Brief review:  This smells so delicious!!!  I literally wanted to eat my face!  I applied the mask while in the shower and also removed in the shower.  I wanted the steam to help with the facial (read about benefits of steaming).  Once done, my face was a shade lighter, lol.  I mean, I wash my face twice a day but apparently I'm not doing a good job.  That means, I would def recommend it!  Retailing for 1 buck and some change and available at Walgreens, CVS, Ulta, Target, etc...

    Sally Beauty Supply
Time to harass you with another curl product!  After trying and loving GODDESS CURLS BY CURLS , I wanted to try another Curls product.  Turns out, I was running out of moisturizer and decided to try Curls Curl Crème Brule and guess what?  It's a winner!

  • Moisturizes your tresses
  • Define Curls
  • Tame Frizz

  • Curls Curl Creme Brule is a cream styler that will define, de-frizz, and moisturize your tresses leaving soft curls without hold.

So, I love this product and it definitely softens and defines curls.  If I had to choose, I would pick this one over Goddess Curls.  I prefer definition over hold.

This product retails for 10 bucks and some change.  I bought mines from Sally's but Target and Amazon and other stores I didn't feel like googling probably carries it.

    Sally Beauty Supply
I heard about castor oil a long time ago and decided to order it last week.  That same day, I went to Sally's and since they had castor oil there (or some version of it), I bought it!

Through the grapevine, I heard that castor oil has a host of benefits:

Castor Oil has been used both internally and externally for thousands of years due to its many wonderful health benefits. Since it can strengthen the immune system, castor oil is considered a great remedy to treat the following major illnesses and ailments:
    • Multiple Sclerosis
    • Parkinson's Disease
    • Cerebral Palsy
    • Hair loss
    • Pain from Arthritis and Rheumatism
It has also been found to help with many everyday problems such as:
    • Yeast Infections
    • Constipation
    • Gastrointestinal Problems
    • Menstrual Disorders
    • Migraines
    • Acne
    • Sunburn
    • Athlete's Foot
    • Ringworm
    • Skin Abrasions
    • Inflammation

Although, I'm using it for my  "Jamaican Mango and Lime Black Castor Oil is a natural, deep penetrating, all purpose healing oil formulated to moisturize and heal dry skin, hair and nails. Each oil blend is infused with organic herbs and nourishing ingredients for the ultimate moisturizing aromatherapy experience."

Usage tips: "Black Castor can be used as a hot oil treatment to repair and protect dry brittle hair. For a therapeutic spa experience, each Black Castor oil blend can be slightly heated to a warm temperature and used for a sensual massage oil. Black castor oil blends are perfect for dry cracked cuticles and feet."

I've been using it on my hair for a few days and it makes my hair soft, smells good and that's about it... However, I'm sure it'll enhance what I already do to my hair.  Any who, this product retails for 6 bucks and some change and can be found at Sally's but you could always try Amazon and eBay.

Fairfax & King 3 Wick Bowl
Originally, this post was about a new candle and soap I bought but then I decided that I should tell you about the store I buy them from.

Chane is a local store (or collection of stores) that's known for their snarky t-shirts, kicks (tennis shoes or whatever you call them, I don't wear tennis), bikes and skateboards; however, there is a lady side of the store (Soma Wilai Store).  I'm not too much into their clothes, although, I buy a sweater or necklace every now and then...  Any who, I've said all of that to say...  The primary reason I shop there is to buy perfume, candles and soaps (yes, a completely different reason from most of the reasons people shop there), lol.

I really really love the brands of perfume, candles and soaps they carry but because the candles and soaps are so expensive (in my opinion), I only go a few times a year.  Nonetheless, I thought I'll tell you about my recent purchases: Fairfax & King 3 Wick Bowl ($26) & Fairfax & King bar soap with Shea Butter ($15) both are in the scent of Persimmon & White Tea

Side note: I just love the packaging and the perfumes aren't as expensive.  Shop, Soma Wilai Store!  And, read a little about Chane, here!

    Mary Kay
So...sometime last year I reblogged a post about Mary Kay's but you didn't hear it from me so I'll take a stab at it :)

With the constant shifts in weather (hot then cold) my lips decided to throw a tantrum and became very dry and flaky.  Luckily, I had this set on standby and since Sunday, I've used it twice!  Grrrr!!!

"Lips have an extremely thin outer protective layer. As the body ages, the already thin layer becomes thinner. To compound the situation, lip skin does not have sweat or sebaceous glands. Without the usual protective layer of sweat and body oils, the lips dry out faster, become chapped more easily and can age faster than other areas of the skin. Satin Lips® Lip Mask effectively exfoliates dead surface skin cells that cause lips to appear dull and lifeless, preparing them for the best application of supermoisturizing Satin Lips® Lip Balm for soft, kissable lips."

So, you can actually buy these separately and after having this set for a while, I can honestly say... you only need the mask.  Each retails for 10 bucks but you can buy the set that you don't need for 18 bucks.  Shop, here!

    Sally Beauty Supply
I haven't used Curls since I first went returned natural.  I honestly don't remember why I stopped using it (oh yea, I'm a product whore).  I have no real reason as to why I bought this besides spending money for the sake of spending money but I digress.  About Curls:

"Curls Goddess Curls is infused with Plumeria Alba Flower Extract and Aloe leaf juice, this botanical curl gel imparts sheen, fights frizz, and creates popping curls!  Curls Goddess Curls is the perfect product for curlies in humid climates to provide all day curl definition and to protect against a curly girls worst nightmare, frizz! A great product to use before traveling to set and hold your curls in place without the stiff, crunchy feeling that most gels give."

    Sort of kind of review:

I like this product.  It defined my curls while providing me with a lot of hold.  This product is probably great for curlies who don't want to twist or braid their hair every night.  I can def see someone getting at least 3-day curls from this product.

DISCLAIMER: I did combine this product with olive oil and my leave in conditioner (Mixed Chicks).

Goddess Curls is available at CVS (where I bought mine), Target, Sally Beauty Supply, Ulta and other stores I'm too lazy too look up for you :)  It retails between 6-9 bucks (depends on where you buy it).

Hey guys, A.V.M allowed me to guest blog (which I was so honored to do so).  Check out the post, here!

I first noticed Lip Tar some months ago but the price of this little tube resulted in the following:
    • *rolling of eyes*
    • *letting out a giggle*
    • *walking off*
However, after seeing their extensive color collection, it's worth a look, right?  I mean, I don't usually pay 18 bucks for any lip gear... I'm more of a 16 bucks type of gal (BIG DIFFERENCE), lol.  About Lip Tar:
    • A liquid matte lipstick with unparalleled pigment intensity and wear time.
    • Only the smallest amount is needed for opaque coverage.
    • LIP TAR: MATTE™ comes packaged in a convenient vinyl-carrying case and travel-sized version of the #010 Precision Lip Brush.
    • Contains Organic Hemp Oil & Soy-Derived Vitamin E, for a finish that feels as good as it looks!
    • Paraben-Free courtesy of refreshing Peppermint Oil.
    • 100% Vegan & Gluten-Free.
Turns out, there are a total of four types of Lip Tar: Clear Lip Tar, Lip Tar: Matte, Lip Tar: Metallic and Lip Tar: Stained Glass.

Yea so...I'm probably going to try this out.  Lip Tar is  available at Sephora (where we were first introduced) and at Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (Lip Tar's owners).

Side note: Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics sales a host of other products, check them out here!

American Hustle is a film set in the late 70s about two con artists FASHION!  Although American Hustle is a great movie with an awesome cast, I paid more attention to the hair, accessories and clothing (Amy Adams is my new girl crush, sorry Lana del Rey).

After this movie, I wanted to go home and burn my wardrobe but I digress...  Oh, and I suppose you should see the movie too, it's actually really good, lol.

While browsing Ulta looking for unnecessary products to buy, I strolled passed the nail polish section and noticed a new line: Dermelect.  Like I usually do, I snapped a picture so I could do research and post it.  Turns out Dermelect has a host of products that I'm not going to talk about because this post is about nail polish :)

This is not just nail polish, it's "peptide infused color treatment" (which is the first of its kind).  Brief description:
    • strengthens weak, brittle nails
    • restores flexibility
    • helps resist chipping and splitting
    • superior extended wear
    • water and detergent resistant
    • UV protected
    • DBP, Toluene & Formaldehyde free
    • cruelty free (no animal testing, ever!)
There is a more detailed description but I figured you guys wouldn't want to read all that crap (that's what I'm here for).  The nail polish retails for 14 bucks and there are a ton of places you can purchase it (but you'll still be paying 14 bucks).  For reviews, to shop, and read about all their other products that I didn't feel like blogging about, visit Dermelect
