OOPS!

According to troubleshooting instructions I read, the side link shift was because of a long title or large picture.  At first I thought it was the MNG post so I deleted it.  It wasn't, lol.  I reposted it so you guys wouldn't miss it :)

MANGO IS MY FAVORITE FRUIT: MNG BY MANGO

I feel like a lot of people are sleeping on JCPenny... Like at this point, most of my wardrobe has come from JCPenny and I get a ton of compliments but when I tell them where I get this dress or shirt from, their mouths drop open, lol.

Pink Heart (Atlanta)

Boutique Freak
So, I guess we can consider this as an overdue post.  Pink Heart was one of the last stores I shopped during my birthday trip to Atlanta.

Located at one of my favorite shopping areas: Atlantic Station, Pink Heart is known for it's large variety of  affordable accessories. Key word: affordable

Mission: When we came to Atlanta, we were absolutely shocked at the prices that boutiques were charging! From that moment, we made it a mission to bring reality into the world of boutiques. We want you to find a whole outfit (same brands as those other stores...trust us!) under $100.00 while enjoying a comfortable and fun shopping experience.

When they say affordable, they aren't kidding.  I saw some above the knee/thigh boots for 50 something bucks!!! Yes, you read right but they didn't have any in my size left :(  As an alternative, I opted for a blue wide brim fedora (which I plan on showing you in my upcoming wardrobe post).

Oh, and this store is not all about accessories, Pink Heart does sale apparel!

And...something funky is going on with their web page so we're just going to mossy over to their Facebook page.

SHE'S BACK!

Hey guys, I'm back!!!  Well sort of... I've spent most of today trying to figure out how everything got shifted (I'm talking about my side bar...)  I should be back to my original posts tomorrow.

If you've noticed, I lumped all the articles from online magazines together.  Why?  Because this is suppose to be a blog... So, while fashion and beauty isn't my fulltime job, you guys should know the difference between what's mines and theirs (mines usually have a snarky comment attached)...

Side note:  I did pass my oral qualifying exam (which allows me permission to continue as a PhD student)!!!

Short Break...

Hey guys, I have a couple of tests lined up for this week so I will be a little MIA until I complete my exams.  Also, it appears that Blogger is on her cycle because my whole format got shifted for no reason...

Last but not least, I need to make some blogger changes.  I feel like my blog is too much like a magazine rather than my own blog but I'll let you know what my plans are mid week.

While you're waiting for the next few days, check my older posts and Tumblr!

See you then,

TREE HUT

So, Tree Hut is another one of my favorite body brands (besides ME & CAROL'S DAUGHTER ALMOND COOKIE SHEA SOUFFLE).  Any who, I love their scrub, soap, body butter and lotion.

TIP: Using scrubs before you shave makes for a close and lasting shave...

Any who, this stuff always makes my skin feel soft and smell beautiful.  Even more, the smells last (you know how you apply some products and 2.5 seconds later, you cant smell it...)

Besides the awesome smells and affordability, you can buy this anywhere!!!  By anywhere I mean Amazon, Kroger, Target, Walmart, Ulta!

My favorites are Brazilian Nut & Hawaiian Kului (only at Target).

The prices vary but each is no more than 8 bucks.  For more info, visit Tree Hut!

SAY'S WHO? PROFESSIONAL ATTIRE SUCKS!

For you guys who are located in New York, LA (maybe Chicago and Atlanta), it seems like business attire is a little more lenient.  Any who, let's call this a bitching post because I'm going to list things I would like (and do wear) that's unprofessional...

  1. Camouflage.  I would think it conveys the message of being ready to work...
  2. Statement necklaces (which I always wear).  Turns out I need more than coffee to give me a fix so I put on big statement necklaces to make myself feel better.  And no, this does not make any logical sense...work with me here, lol.
  3. Fedoras. I feel like I'm cool but I'm super duper extra cool with one on.  I do sneak them in on Fridays *insert bee gees stayin alive*
  4. Just a little leg... I think slightly above the knee is not a problem.
  5. A little dash of color (lips, nails and or eyes).  So professional attire consist of those typical dark colored clothes so I think it's no problem adding a little sass (via makeup); however, pick one location.  For example, bright pink nails means nude makeup.
Well, I'm not sure who's grandma created these rules and why they have to be so strict but I want to live a little and so should you!  By live a little, I mean wear this stuff at home because I don't want you to get fired...lol.

Side note: This list is not done, I'm just getting started (evil grin).

PREP & PRIME LASH

*That awkward moment when you planned to post about eyelash primer before you read an article about mercury in mascara...*  Let's hope there are little to no containments in this product...

Anyway, I was at MAC buying a new red lip and eye shadow so I figured I should go ahead and get primer ( I ran out of my Tart and didn't feel like going to Ulta, lol).

Description: Pump up your mascara with an undercoat. Goes on white, dries to a semi-clear base. Smoothes and conditions. Intensifies the build and lengthening quality of all formulas. Helps mascara last longer.

So...it's MAC so there is no surprise I like this.  Typically, when I apply mascara, I have to do two coats (curling and brushing up the lash).  With this primer, I add just a little primer, one coat of mascara and I'm done!

Prep and prime retails for 16 bucks and is available at....MAC (duh), shop here! Lol.

Benzoyl Peroxide vs. Salicylic Acid: Which One Is Better For You?- POPSUGAR

"Benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid are both excellent acne fighters, and definitely the most affordable treatments on the market. Almost any drugstore acne treatment is going to have one or the other. But it's impossible to tell from the bottle which product is going to help clear up your specific acne. If you end up with the wrong one, it can actually make things worse. To help you determine which product you actually need, I've put together a quick comparison. Rene Rene

In addition to this past weekend, I was in Atlanta in May.  In the post Little Five Points I talked about all the stores I visited.  I didn't talk about Rene Rene (although I thought I did...it must have been with those group of stores that were closed that day), nonetheless, I'm going to talk about it now :)

The Modern Day Flapper

About: "Rene Sanning is the owner and designer of Rene Rene, an integral piece of the Little Five Points' boutique culture since 1987! All of her designs are inspired by 1940's and 50's old movies, with a twist- a little more modern here and there. The clothing has always been produced her studio in Atlanta!"  For more, read here!

I have to tell you, I love the era of her designs and love the store's environment even more.  There was actually a ton of people in the store but that didn't stop them for chatting with me.  Side note: I had on that blazer with the leather bottom I told yall about and they loved it :)

The clothes were quite affordable but because I was trying to catch all of the stores before they closed I just briefly went through the racks.  I did have time to purchase leopard print cat eye sunglasses that were on sale for 15 bucks!  One of the saleswomen even told me that the glasses made me look very Marilyn Monroe (she was reaching but I still appreciated the compliment, lol).

I'M A LIPPMANNIAN

Missed me?  Well if you guys didn't know, I traveled to Atlanta for my 28th birthday.  I'll probably talk a little about that trip later this week.

Disclaimer: This will serve as one of a few lazy posts this week.  Like, I plan to provide you with all the info you need but there will not be any pictures because I either forgot or was too lazy...

For my birthday, I requested a Deborah Lippmann nail polish set which was a bit cheaper on HSN (which my mom is slightly addicted to).

The colors: Fake It 'til You Make It and Glitter & Be Gay Nail Lacquer

About: Go for the golden. These bright and happy colors are like wearable sunshine. They sparkle and radiate with joy. Having a gray day? Put on a little bit of your very own sunshine and you're golden.

Features:
  • Long-wearing nail lacquer in a gorgeous, highly pigmented color
  • Quick-drying
  • Slightly thicker consistency and densely packed brush bristles
  • Nail color glides on evenly and effortlessly for a truly professional finish
  • Made with fine ingredients for beauty treatment benefits
  • Formula helps strengthen and hydrate nails
  • Free of formaldehyde, toluene and dibutyl phthalates
  • Contains biotin and green tea, along with Aucoumea Klaineana extract (a botanical resin from West African trees)

  • My opinion??? I love love love this!  I used the gold polish on my toes and both polishes on my fingers.  Of course this lasted, it's couture nail polish!  The thing I liked about the nail color was that it dried like a matte but its not really a matte...  Also, I felt like the nail polish hugged my nails, weird huh?

But...I ended up passing through Neiman Marcus Saturday and all her polishes were on display which led me to purchase Ghost Grey from her Punk Rock Collection (Deborah Lippman's Punk Rock Textured Nail Polish).  Yea so I'm totally into textures now.  Actually, my nails are drying as I type this, lol.  I'm guessing my nails could have lasted longer but I just had to try the texture :(

Purchase Deb Lip (which is what I call her) on her site, at Ulta, Sephora, HSN, and other places that pop up on google and yahoo, lol.

Disclaimer 2: So, Deb Lip is a bit expensive for a nail polish.  She typically retails for 19 bucks which is why I requested it for my birthday, lol.

TOO RICH FOR MY BLOOD: NYX's NATURAL SHADOW PALETTE

Yea so...that above quote has nothing to do with this post but it's sorta kind of along the lines, lol.

Any who, I thought it would be cool to purchase this palette for a natural eye look because of course you need makeup to look natural ... Oxymoron?

    Description:
"Go au natural...or turn up the drama with the Natural Shadow Palette. Designed to beautify all skin tones, this 6-shadow collection enhances the shape and color of your eyes instantly, and lets you go as soft or dramatic as you like. Wear these shades solo, mix them up, or use them as a neutral base for any of our colorful shadows."

My opinion???  Le sigh...this palette is not for all skin tones...  It's my fault, I should have been able to tell by the colors.  Another thing, I didn't like the way the shadows felt.  It was like applying a piece of chalk, lol.

On the other hand, the palette was only 6 bucks or so plus I had a coupon so it wasn't that much of a risk.  I'll probably end of giving it to a friend or something.

To purchase and probably get more positive reviews, visit NYX!

Expert Tips: How Not to Be Foiled By Metallic Eyeshadow- Beauty High

We’re admittedly big fans of high-impact makeup around here, and nothing delivers like metallic makeup. The newest advance in this category is one of our favorites, foil eyeshadow. A product that literally appears to bend and buckle like foil with a power-shine finish, we’ve been in love with the look since we spotted it on the runway at alice + olivia by Stacey Bendet for Fall 2013.

FORMULA X IS HERE (NOW, IT CAN GO AWAY)!

Sigh...  Along with the appliques, I bought a bottle of Formula X For Sephora Xplosives Top Coat in cobalt confetti (pictured).  So, let me try a compliment sandwich...

Formula X has a TON of colors, like a never ending flow of colors.  So, there's the New Classics, Xplosives Top Coats, New Neutrals, Shifters, Lusters, Transformers, Brilliants, Electrics, Celestials, Sparklers, Translucents, Chromes, Superwatts, Holograms, Holiday, and top and base coats.

Any who, the sales woman walks by and shows me a paper comparing Marc Jacobs nail polish (which was almost sheer), the OPI polish which looked a little better and the mighty Formula X which was the darkest.

On Sunday, I polished my nails and quite honestly, this top coat was almost enough on its own but I added one coat of blue nail polish anyway...  By Tuesday, I saw some of the sheer coat chip and that's just too damn quick.  If $1 nail polish can last, this $12.50 nail polish should last but I digress.  I suppose there can be some factors I could come up with but...I won't, lol.

Don't take my word for it... Try it out or read other reviews, here!

Dry Hair Doesn't Stand a Chance Against This Deep Conditioner- POPSUGAR

"The bane of my beauty existence is my dry scalp, so much so that I have to use medicated shampoo to keep the flakes away. But while the itch is gone, my hair is drier than ever. That is where Camille Rose Naturals Algae Deep Conditioner ($16, originally $20) comes in. After 30 minutes under a warm conditioning cap with this treatment (which looks like frosting and smells like chocolate), my hair was soft once again. It even helped make the detangling of my coarse Afro hair easy. Blue-green algae provides protein, while the cocoa and mango butters hydrate hair and give the slip necessary for styling. It's best of both worlds: a dandruff-free scalp and moisturized strands."  For more, visit POPSUGAR!

    Product FYI: BENEFIT'S WATT'S UP

So, when I purchased those wack nail appliques and a bottle of Formula X (which I will probably post about later this week), Sephora gave me a birthday gift!!!

The birthday gift included a sample of Benefit's "They're Real" Mascara (which I've blogged about before) and Watt's up, a face highlighter.

Details: "Our soft focus highlighter turns on “watt” ya got with a delicate champagne glow that’s gorgeous. With a cream-to-powder finish...it’s a switch on “wow” for all complexions. You’ll adore the smooth applicator & luminous sheen."

How to Apply: "Glide on cheek & brow bones...then sculpt with its soft glow blender for YOUR perfect gleam. Can be applied solo or over existing makeup."

Beauty Tip: "Glide on cheek & brow bones...then sculpt with its soft glow blender for YOUR perfect gleam. Can be applied solo or over existing makeup."

My opinion?  This is why I slightly hate samples, lol.  I just LOVE this stuff! I was very skeptical of the color with my skin tone but it blends perfectly and feels quite soft.  While this may go against fall and winter makeup guidelines, I plan to use this for a while.

Retailing for 30 bucks, you can purchase this product at Benefit, Sephora and Ulta.

Side note:  My birthday is Saturday (the big 28), what are you guys getting me? :)

Essential Makeup Remover Pen From Oceane- Beauty High

"When you’re applying your mascara in the morning, chances are you’re going to need to clean up some stray product around the edges of your eyes once you’re done. The same goes for lipstick and touching up the area around your lips. Sure, you can avoid the situation altogether with the precision of a makeup artist, but realistically, everyone’s going to have black mascara on their eyelids by the time they’re done with the brush. We use cotton swabs with a bit of water to get the job done, but while the moisture helps to loosen the stray product, it still doesn’t completely remove it. That’s why we were ecstatic to find the Oceane Makeup Remover Pen, a product that solved all of the makeup accidents we were having."  For more, visit Beauty High!

    The 11 most contaminated foods

"According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), every year one out of six Americans gets sick from foodborne illness, and of those people, 128,000 are hospitalized. Given the public concern about this issue, in 2009 the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) compiled a list of foods regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that are most likely to infect people with foodborne diseases, such as salmonella, E. coli and listeria. Though two years have passed, experts still consider this “a pretty reliable list of the riskiest food items,” says Catherine Adams Hutt, PhD, RD, a food safety consultant based in Texas. Luckily, there are precautions you can take to decrease your odds of contamination. So from leafy greens to ice cream, read on to discover which 11 eats cause the most concern—and the specific measures you can take to protect yourself against sickness."  For more, read here!

The Original "It" Soap: Black Soap

    African Imports
"It's been a long time, I shouldn't have left you- without a strong rhyme to step to."
    -Rakim

So, I haven't created an original post since Monday...  I find it hard to write about beauty, fashion and or shopping when there are a ton of people who've been furloughed and don't know when they will be back to work...but I digress.

While in the shower and thinking about original posts, I wondered if I had wrote anything about black soap.  Black soap was the first post on my original blog and when Pink Gumbeaux was created (although you wont find it, I deleted a lot of older posts).

    Any who... what's black soap?

"All natural black soap is made from dried plantain skins, palm leaves, cocoa pod powder, and kernel oil for an all-natural cleansing process. Plantains skins are largely what make this black soap so effective. It is a natural source of vitamins A & E and iron. When black soap is made, the skin of the plantain is dried under the sun and then roasted in a clay oven. The heat must be constant in order to achieve the perfect brownish black color, texture & smell. Afterwards, cocoa pod powder is added. Cocoa pod is the shell of the cocoa fruit and also has natural healing properties."

    Source

I'm not sure how I found out about black soap but I've been using it for the last several years.  I use it to remove makeup, I've used it to wash my hair (it will get it squeaky clean so I don't recommend that you do this too often...) and I use it as a body soap a few times a week for my eczema.  Since using black soap, I have no eczema breakouts and no indication that I even have eczema (no marks or scarring) which is a good alternative to that crappy steroid cream they prescribe...

    Other benefits:
  • Black soap works on most skin types including rough and dry or sensitive skin.
  • Help clear skin bumps and spots by using black soap daily.
  • Helps relieve acne, oily skin & other skin problems.
  • Black soap is also great for removing makeup.
  • Black soap benefits against premature facial lines and wrinkles.
  • Black soap can also be lathered and used as an effective shampoo.

  • Source

You can buy black soap online or at health/organic type of store.

Warning: black soap is not BLACK.  Authentic black soap (with all the above listed benefits) looks like the picture above.  Also, this soap smells like dirt (which is why I follow up with oatmeal soap or something else that smells better, lol).

"More often than not these days, women are coloring their hair.
