My Nail Salon Fail

So, today is my reunion and I wanted some nail art.  Thing is, I didn't feel like doing it... Why not just pay a salon 20 bucks or so and focus on other things (like trying to loose 20 pounds so I can look like I did in high school), lol.  Any who, when it comes to nail art, Artistik Nails & Spa is the best in this region!

Lets be real, this is Mississippi.  While there may be some trendy individuals, this is not Atlanta and there isn't an awesome nail artist on every block... So, when I walk in, this old man tells me I can come to his table.  My first mistake...  However, I thought he would do well because it's an awesome salon.

Next, I asked the nail artist if I should get stiletto or short nails.  She informed me that stiletto nails should always be super long so I opted for the short.  I walked back to the old guy and he asked me how I wanted my nails filed.  Since it was an overlay, I told him to follow the natural way my nails are shaped.  This guy gave me box, oval and even filed so much of the corners of my nails that skin started to show (where there once was nails).  I still didn't like it and he flipped out!  He stormed off fussing (in another language) and another woman said she would do it...

The next person added acrylic to the edges of my nails that I lost from the first guy.  And, how did she file my nails?  Freakin square!  At that point, I had been there for two hours and was ready. to. go.  Is this 1998?  I don't want square box nails!  She then asked me what design I wanted and I told her to freestyle.  But then she informed me my nails was TOO SHORT FOR NAIL ART!  So y'all can do art on toes but not my nails.  I just told her to do a picture frame so I could get the hell out of there!

So, this is what $34 got me...

Pure bullshit.  I also ended up bumping one of my nails which she repolished but forgot to add a top coat.  Long story short they suck, if you stay in this area, don't go there and their customer service sucks.... Whew! I needed to vent.

My boyfriend suggested I get them done else where but I'm too pissed that I spent money for crap.  I guess this is what happens when a nail enthusiast visits a nail salon or do they just suck?

Marc Anthony's Strictly Curls

If I had a dollar for every time I found out about a new curl hair line, lol.  I posted a video sometime this week where a vlogger used Marc Anthony's curl products.  I've never  heard of it until her video and I rarely look at hair products at CVS.  CVS is the place I pick up things I don't want anyone seeing me buy but, I digress.

So, who is Marc Anthony?

"Described as the “Canadian hair-styling guru,” by The Canadian Press, Marc Anthony is the Toronto-based celebrity hair stylist, product developer, business dynamo and television personality who has revolutionized the hair care industry."  Read more about him, here!

His Strictly Curls Collection "was formulated with all curly hair types in mind. Whether your hair needs a bit of boost or some serious taming, this renowned line will have a curly hair product for you to create the curly hair style of your dreams. All Strictly Curls products are enriched with Soya Bean and Shea Butter to add intense moisture, while Silk Amino Acids smooth cuticles and Vitamin E protects and promotes healthy hair that shines. This unique formula will give you envious curls while preventing frizz and dryness."

His products are available at CVS and a host of other locations.

Although I haven't (and probably will never) try his products, I'm pretty confident that these products work best for individuals with loose curl patterns.  The reason I say this is because of the women I see on his boxes.  Nonetheless, you can view info about each product and even demos, here!

DIY Wrap Bangles

Looks like everyone is getting wrapped bangles for Christmas, lol. DIY, here!

Magazine Street, Here I Come!

Home, sweet home!  I'll be heading to New Orleans in a few hours (for my high school reunion) and since I'm in town, this will be a perfect time to hang on Magazine St.  The last few times I was in town, I either didn't have any time or the stores were closed!

"Magazine Street — one of New Orleans' premier shopping and entertainment districts — is an unparalleled collection of neighborhoods with a diverse array of businesses, shops, restaurants and hot spots. It's where people live, work, play and enjoy the good life that New Orleans has to offer. In short, ... it's the Place to be in New Orleans."

While I'm there, I'll have the camera in hand and will be ready to post about it Monday!  Check out more about Magazine Street, here!

Oh and the above picture is not mine....I don't have time to be getting sued! Lol.  Here's the credit: Store Photos.

Too Young For Fashion? Alonso Mateo, the 5-Year-Old Style Icon

On yesterday, I read a couple of articles about Alonso Mateo who is being considered a fashion icon at the tender age of....5!  Mr. Mateo wears high fashion brands such as Dior, Tom Ford and Gucci, thanks to his mom who is a fashion stylist.

At first glance I thought, "if I had a kid, I would want him to dress like this."  Well, minus the high-end prices... I was thinking along the lines of Baby Gap, lol.  In contrast, his parents have received serious backlash.  People think kids should be kids and that the parents don't know what kind of damage is being done as a result of all the attention.  We are pretty familiar with the downfall of popular child stars...

However, the parents stated that the Instagram photos are only a fragment of his life and I hope they are telling the truth.  I mean, we don't want him to be in rehab by 16.  My personal opinion is that if they have the money and want to blow it on designer threads, who cares?  However, I do hope they have money tucked away for his future and that most of his time is spent doing what normal 5 year olds do: making mud pies, playing in the toilet, etc.

Your thoughts???

Hot & Humid: My Picks from Forever 21 & Love Culture

So, I'm heading to New Orleans for my 10 Year High School Reunion (insert applause here), and it's going to be both hot and humid...  I'm starting to sweat just thinking about it... Any way, I'm not about to spend a boat load of money melting through clothes so I decided to check out my favorite cheap stores: Forever 21 & Love Culture.  View the slide show, here!

Or bypass my blah and shop Forever 21 and Love Culture

Sally Hansen's Fuzzy & Sugar Coats

I want to first say that I saw these collections a while back but the names annoyed me so I didn't post about them... However, I sometimes forget that this blog is more about you than me.  Plus, their display was nearly empty at Ulta so it must be worth something.  Any who...

Manibeaux Mondays: Avon's Nail Art Design Strips

Manibeaux Monday is a little different today.  First, lets start with my manicure.  If you follow me on Instagram, Twitter, Google + or Tumblr, you should know that Sephora had a nail polish sale and I was there!  Lol.  So, this is what I bought:

I chose to wear these first.  I put them on Thursday and will probably keep them until Thursday.

Instead of choosing my favorite pics from this past weekend, I wanted to tell you about Avon's Nail Art Design Strips

First, I would like to say that Avon are the OG's (original gangstas) of nail strips.  Bought some for my mom years ago and even then, they lasted for about two weeks. Any who, they now have "Nail Art Design Strips" that includes a bunch of bold designs and colors.  Further, all strips are on sale for $6.99 (regular price 10 bucks).  Unlike the old days, you can shop Avon online instead of tracking down Avon consultants...

Friends, Fakes, Flakes & Forgivness

Every now and then, I go on rants.  Some of you may think I'm crazy but others understand.  Any who, this post is about me getting rid of some extra baggage.  Let me first say that I don't have the best history when it comes to friends or women...in general, lol.  From my perspective, I've always wanted to have that go-to group of girlfriends and even mentors and that hasn't happened. For the most part, it has hurt me and even caused some anger...why wouldn't women want to stick together, work together, and support each other???

The last several years at my current gig has added fuel to the fire.  Honestly, I have never met so many immature and hateful women in my life.  I really believe that once a women is hired, they are provided with the personnel handbook and directions for hating Ashlee.  The reason is not relevant; however, the following lame excuses include but are not limited to: my hair, clothes, accent, home city, education, perceived personality, because I'm a "hoe," and my favorite: "because a friend of a friend doesn't like me." And, I thought bullying ended in elementary school...

These situations have led to people trying to get me fired, spreading rumors and some backstabbing.  However, I choose to take my life back...this past Saturday to be exact.  As an adult, in the real world...most people don't care about you.  Further, for people who don't have any lives, self worth or jealousy because they haven't accomplished anything (that you may have), of course, their lives will revolve around destroying yours; especially, if you respond to their foolishness.

So, to the women who feel like I feel or have experienced worse...if there is someone who doesn't like you, that is their problem, not yours.  Forgiveness is not for them, it's for you.  Holding grudges hurts you... It can hurt you mentally, negatively impact current relationships and even cause health issues (stress behind these situations have often caused me loss of sleep, migraines and cold sores).  Further, there are lessons in everything... For example, I've learned how NOT to treat people, how to be a more genuine person and even mentor (the professional opportunity I feel like I've never received).

So, if you've been hurt, forgive.  If you are hurting people, ask for forgiveness and do better... This road will not be easy.  These relationships have led me to be very cautious, to put up walls and even become a bit of an intorvert.  The relationships I'm refering to are dead to me.  Let's not be stupid if these people have really hurt you but I do know there is some good...some where.

Let's pull out my list...I forgive the fake friends, messy coworkers, flaky mentor and any other hater I forgot to include.

Side note: that GIF is from Mean Gurlz (which is hilarious)!

Now, to your regularly scheduled shallow and superficial posts, lol.

16 Ways That Accessories Can Update Boring Outfits

"Sick of your day-to-day outfits? You don’t need a whole new wardrobe—the most boring looks can be transformed with the help of a few key accessories. Follow our advice for fresh updates using your favorite jewelry, bags, and shoes."  Read more via Glamour Magazine, here!

Product Updates: A Month Overview

Lately, it seems like I have been trying  a lot of things so I wanted to give you guys a brief update.

Lets start with Dermablend's Quick-Fix Concealer SPF 30.  I absolutely love this product.  In fact...my concealer stays on longer than MAC's foundation.  By the end of the day, my oily skin eats through MAC's foundation but Dermablend stays on until I take it off! Some time in the near future, I'm going to check their foundation out; although, I doubt they have a color in my skin tone...

Then there are the supplements I bought this pass weekend.  I think the green tea supplements have been very helpful.  I find myself not being as hungry, eating as much nor do I desire to snack.  However, I don't feel like the ginseng is working.  But, in ginseng's defense, I never get enough sleep so that is the main reason I'm always tired (and irritable), lol.

Next, is DERMAdoctor's Shrinking Beauty.  While my thighs are looking slender these days, they haven't firmed up yet.  It's only been two weeks so I'm going to give this product the benefit of the doubt and wait until I finish the tube...

I've probably experienced the best results using Murad Radiance Renewal Kit.  As I stated in that post, I was only going to use it in the mornings.  My face is looking more clear and healthier these days.  I even use less concealer.  You should have seen me a few weeks ago.  I concealed almost my whole face! Lol.

I have perfected Naptural 85's No Fuss Quick Summer Beach Curls. The difference is I leave the conditioner and oils in my hair and I have to make more bantu knots since my coils are a bit tighter than hers.

Last but not least, is there any hair growth using monistat 7? My answer: YES!  My hair has grown over an inch since I've been using this! Some people may experience an inch of hair growth in 3 weeks but I was never one of them.

Well there you  have it.  If I'm missing something, let me know!

Keep Your Paws off My S**t: Men that Use Our Products!

Once when I visited home during one of my college breaks, I was applying a mask to my face.  My Dad asked: "what are you doing?"  I told him applying a mask to improve my skin and reduce breakouts.  Later that day, he applied my face mask.  Because the mask was such a success, he started using more of my beauty products: body wash, lotion, etc.  Don't believe me?  I face-timed him and interrupted one of his spa moments...

Now, whenever I visit, he digs through my bags to see what new goodies he can use.  He often prays I leave something behind (which I sometimes do).

And, then there is my boyfriend.  His face looked a little dry one day so I provided him with face moisturizer.  He has such beautiful locks that I gave him a hair moisturizer and conditioner to use.  Whenever he's over, he asking for my soap, rummaging through my cabinets looking for hair, body and face products.  And guess what?  Girl smells aren't a turn-off!  However, I've come to the realization that a lot of men do this.  What's worse?  They get on us about needing more products!  "When are you going to buy this for me again?"  "You're out of this, you need to get more!"  Companies that make men products need to be alerted of this.  I don't know about you but I am TIRED of sharing! Lol.  Have you experienced this?  Lets chat below!

Side note: Lets keep this convo to ourselves.  They would kill me if they knew I posted these pics! Shhhhhh!

Twist Out: Eden Body Works Coconut Shea Curl Defining Creme

It Works: Ultimate Body Applicator: 72 Hour Results

Yea so...this was suppose to be a video.  I did shoot the process via video but my camera man (my boyfriend) didn't do a good job.  Needless to say...he has been fired.  So, lets go over a few tips regarding the applicator.

  1. Do the wrap right out of the shower.
  2. Clean the area with alcohol before application.
  3. Once applied, ensure you wrap the area with plastic wrap to secure the body applicator.
  4. Because it's your first time, leave it on for 45 minutes.  You won't know how your body responds until you try it for the first time.
  5. THERE WILL BE A TINGLING SENSATION.  Don't be alarmed, lol.  I was scared until I Facebooked Christine.  She said that means its working.
  6. Drinking plenty of water will secure good results.  I started drinking about 4 bottles of water a day (which is more than the prescribed 8 cups).  Drinking this much water has also cleared my skin.
  7. For the best results, you will probably need to wrap more than once unless...you're already a stick figure.
So, what do I look like 72 hours later???

Before I was 32 inches right below my boobs, 35 in the area of my belly ring and 35 at the bottom of my stomach.  After 45 minutes I was: 31, 33 and 35.  Currently, I'm, 29, 32 and 33.

So, I just want to emphasize that I haven't changed my eating habits nor have I worked out.  It's been in the 90s here so it's just not safe to go walking or running.

As I stated previously, I have been drinking a lot of water but I have coffee once a day.  I also didn't have any booze.  Yep, no happy hour for me.  Alcohol works against the elements so...

The big question...do I recommend this?  Would I try this again?  My answer is HELL YEAH!  I plan to order today!  Lol.  Clearly, if you aren't a stick figure, it will take a few more wraps to get the job done.  If you plan on trying this, I recommend that you sign up for their loyalty program (like I did).  It's 40% off like that.

To view my before pics and read a little about these wraps, click here.  To shop, click here or hit the picture to your upper right.

Side note: Next time I'll have a video and I will take pictures facing the side.  You can see a real difference like that.

The Wonderful World of Eyebrows...OR NOT!

So I might have mentioned it here or probably another chat...  Any who, brows are one of today's biggest trends.  All you need is a great outfit, accessories and big caterpillar brows!  But the reason I bring this up is because every sense I bought my brow pencil (maybe a couple of months ago), my brows have looked different every single day!  Lol.  I mean, my brows are a little thin right at the end so I really don't need to spend 5 minutes every morning painting Picasso on my face but I digress.

As I learn more and more about brows, I present you with the following tips...

Tip 1:  You should never, under any circumstances use a black pencil for brows... Your pencil should be a shade lighter than your hair!  However, if your hair is a funky color, I can't help you...ask Cosmo or Glamour magazines, lol.

Tip 2:  Don't shave your brows off then draw them on.  That's dumb!  Moving on...

Tip 3:  You're everyday life is not a vogue cover so lets not get too theatrical. Yes, I'm talking to myself.

Tip 4:  Try to accept the natural flow of your brows unless you don't have any.  In that case, use a brow pencil or powder to do a little filling.  Key phrase: "A LITTLE"!

Tip 5:  This is not the 1920s...you're eyebrows should not look like skinny McDonald arches, hollahoops, bangles, pencils, etc.

Well there you have it!

Am I On A Supplement Overdose: Green Tea & Ginseng

So...I know what it looks like...  Every week I'm posting about some new vitamin, supplement or pill I'm popping, lol.  However, I have to see what works for me so I can tell you all about it.

My latest culprits: Green Tea & Ginseng Supplements

Because I'm serious about a lifestyle change and weight loss, I was looking for new supplements that could assist me.  I've been using Herbalife's Cell-U-Loss for almost a year but I wanted to try something new.  I went to my local Kroger and picked up green tea supplements which costs me about 5 bucks and some change.  Read here about green tea supplements and its many benefits (check out those side effects too)!

And, because I need a little more energy, I picked up ginseng supplements. which cost 6 bucks and some change.  Read about it, here!

I know Krogers isn't worldwide but these type of supplements are available everywhere.  Also, I like to go with the generic brand because it's cheaper and contains the EXACT same things as the more expensive brands.

The Ultimate Body Applicator: A Review

Last week, I posted about It Works products; specifically, their Ultimate Body Applicator.

Little background info:

Last summer I was 128 pounds.  In a year, I gained 28 pounds.  Why?  Because I stop excercising, I rarely get an adeqaute amount of sleep and I was eating very unhealthy.  I kind of blame this on trying to balance school and work but I digress.

Last night, I tried the body applicator and lost about 2 inches.  According to It Works, you will see results after 45 minutes, 24 hours and 72 hours.  I will be posting a video after 72 hours.  Below, are my before and after pics...

I will post more results Wednesday.  Shop, here or click on the tab to your left.

My Weekend Review: Maw Maw's 80th Birthday Party

My weekend revolved around Saturday's suprise party for my grandmother (maw maw) who turned 80 earlier this week.  My family invited childhood friends, old coworkers, family and church memebers.

At first, I didn't think this party was a good idea.  It was over the top and expensive.  Also, I didn't think an 80 year old would want to be bothered with all the hoopla. But, once she arrived and I saw those tears in her eyes... All my life, I had never seen her cry.  Any who, I don't have many women I can say had a strong impact on me.  However, my grandmother has been an inspiration to me for some time.

Why?  She went to college after having 6 kids, with a full time job, completed her degree in 3 years and with honors!  She also fought discrimination on the job and won!  She's been very active in the community but especially at my childhood church. And for any of her grand kids who have cars and obtained or in the process of obtaining a degree....she contributed to that to.

So, why I'm happy to share with you that her party was awesome and that I successfully provided a "welcome speech," I also was bit inspired to do a little more positive... To have accomplished so much in 80 years, I would be happy if I could be half the woman she is.

Product FYI: Bliss Cosmetics

Some time ago, I saw these products at Sephora.  So, it appears that Bliss is an actual spa (with locations in the U.S. and abroad).

About Bliss:

"After opening their first New York City location in 1996, Bliss revolutionized the industry by taking a completely different approach to spas and skincare. While you’ll certainly be pampered at Bliss, first and foremost their spas are about delivering advanced skin and body treatments that attain real results. From The Youth As We Know It wrinkle-reducing facial and the radiance-enhancing Triple Oxygen Treatment™, to the cellulite-targeting FatGirlSlim body treatment, Bliss offers pro-powered products that let you recreate their spa treatments at home."

Their products include makeup, skincare, tools and brushes, and bath and body.

Some of their prices are reasonable ($9-$35) but there are also products that range from the 60s to 145 bucks.  I guess it's all about what you want to achieve...

Some things I may try include...

FatGirlSixpack ($38):
A tummy-toning gel with six active ingredients and an ab-activating applicator

Trim & Bare It ($64):
A spa-inspired personal grooming system for upkeep between professional waxes that includes a trimmer and four function-specific attachments.

Total Bliss Give Me Strength Hair+Nail Boosting Bites ($42):
A package of soft, bite-sized pomegranate blueberry-flavored nutrient supplements that help maintain healthy, durable hair and nails.

Yep, pretty much everything that'll keep me vein, lol.  Shop or view all 69 of their products, here!

International Day of Remembrance at the Art Garden Celebration on the Green: A REVIEW

Yesterday was very interesting to say the least, lol. First, the event was to commemorate the life of Medgar Evers.  It's been a series of big events for the last couple of weeks regarding the 50th anniversary of his assassination.  Too deep?  Let me get to the juice...

I arrived about 15 mins prior (8:45AM) to the time we were suppose to be done setting up, lol.  I woke up late, had bags under my eyes and had to stop to get cash.  Usually, I have my trusty assistant (my boyfriend) but he had a meeting..."as if."  Any who, yesterday was the hottest day to date out here (about 90 something degrees), the grass was wet, my tent was leaking, and there were bugs...a ton of bugs!  We were located in the garden but I didn't think we were literally going to be in the grass, lol.  Luckily, my assistant bought me my spike boots, extra bottles of water, bug spray and some snacks.

The southern bell in me was having a nervous breakdown.  I didn't know how I was going to make it over 6 hours in that heat but I was happy to be there and continue to get the Pink Gumbeaux name out.

The festival was full of performances, speeches and thanks regarding the Medgar Evers legacy.  Unfortunately, it wasn't the best turnout.  It's probably because it was hot as hell, Wednesday (most people tend to work for a living, lol), not a lot of people were aware of it, and because it was hot as hell! Lol.

So, with the people who did show up, they weren't really checking for us vendors, lol.  They were trying to stay cool in the breeze or in the museum.  I made $0.00 dollars!  However, there was one positive thing...I didn't die of a heat stroke :)

Side note: Aren't those girls the cutest little things?

Product DON'T: Hydroxycut Gummies

So, just in case you haven't picked up on it...I'm trying to loose weight and tone my tenderloins, lol.  I've been calorie counting (1300 a day), walking (2 miles 4 or 5 times a week), I've incorporated cellulite cream (read about that, here), I'm awaiting my ultimate body wrap applicator and then there's the Hydroxycut Gummies...

According to Hyroxycut:
"Average weight loss with key ingredients (lady’s mantle, wild olive, komijn, wild mint) was 20.94 lbs. in a 12-week study and 16.50 lbs. in an 8-week study. All groups followed a calorie-
reduced diet."

The bottle cost me (well...my boyfriend) 24 or 25 bucks plus tax.  According to the directions, you are suppose to eat 2 gummies 30 mins before each meal, your total calories should be 2000 (mines is less), and you should not snack...

MY EXPERIENCE:

It gave me energy and suppressed my hunger just a little.  I didn't need to snack as often but was still hungry as a result of eating 3 meals...only.

Did I loose weight...um, no and yes.  I think I've loss weight because of my calorie counting and exercise.  The gummies actually add almost 100 calories a day because their 30 calories per meal.  Also, the bottle doesn't even last a month.  Therefore, I don't think it's worth it.  I've read mostly good reviews but I have to wonder what else they did to loose weight in addition to the gummies.  I'm really not feeling buying a $25 bottle of gummies every 3 weeks.

I give it two thumbs down ladies (and men).
