So, my mom knows I'm obsessed with Deborah Lippmann (she bought my first DL polishes) and called me sometime last week (really late while I was studying for a final) to tell me DL was on HSN selling a 12-piece nail set.  Although I LOVE DL, I just can't spend that type of money on nail polish!  Any who, she asked me if I wanted it for Christmas.  I hadn't thought about DL polish as a gift, honestly, I just wanted iTunes and H&M gift cards...  She kept harassing me and those polishes were selling like weave so I told her to go ahead and purchase it.

After she purchased it and sent me the confirmation, I bounced around for about 20 minutes because I was going to get 12 full-sized DL polishes ( I was looking down at all my other polishes wondering if I should just off them), lol.

On Monday, I received the packaged.  After removing all the packaging and plastic I started pulling out the polish and I said "WTH, this isn't full-sized!"  But, I digress...

What You Get
  • .27 fl. oz. Nail Lacquer - Single Ladies (burgundy red, creme)
  • .27 fl. oz. Nail Lacquer - Stormy Weather (edgy granite, creme)
  • .27 fl. oz. Nail Lacquer - Sarah Smile (sexy pink, sheer)
  • .27 fl. oz. Nail Lacquer - Groove is in the Heart (flamingo pink, creme)
  • .27 fl. oz. Nail Lacquer - I Know What Boys Like (playful periwinkle, bluish purple, creme)
  • .27 fl. oz. Nail Lacquer - Mermaid's Dream (seafoam splendor, glittered shimmer)
  • .27 fl. oz. Nail Lacquer - Fashion (taupe, creme)
  • .27 fl. oz. Nail Lacquer - It's Raining Men (red, creme)
  • .27 fl. oz. Cuticle oil
  • .27 fl. oz. Gel Lab top coat - Shining Armor (clear)
  • .27 fl. oz. Gel Lab base coat - Coat of Arms (clear)
  • .27 fl. oz. Cuticle remover
You guys already know I love this brand but I'll give you a brief review:

I picked It's Raining Man RED and used DL's base and top coats along with her cuticle oil.  What I love about her polish is that it dries quick and hugs the nail.  Like, do you understand?  It literally looks like it expands and hugs the nail to prevent chips.

I probably should have told you at the beginning of this post but that particular special is no more (at this moment).  Mom got it for $39.95 with free shipping but it retails for $59.95 plus shipping, nonetheless, you can still check it out. here!

Neon Lipstick, 2013 Beauty Trends to FORGET & Rules to Wear Dark Lips

The end of the year is usually when people reflect on the year they’ve had and outline goals for the next.  I actually do this during my birthday so I guess I’ve skipped ahead but I’m going to take a stab at it anyway.
Had I wrote this post when I intended to or even a day early, it would’ve been riddled with bitterness.  I guess you can say that this has not been the best year for me.  Part of the problem is my expectations regarding a new year; a new year does not equal a perfect year.  Another problem, allowing my happiness to align with my achievements (which is all wrong).  What’s worse is that I’ve spent all year being upset about the things I was upset about the year before, what a waste of time….
I’ve always  walked a fine line between being angry and appreciative.  I’m angry that I gave away my ideal life, worked hard and haven’t received the results I associated with the sacrifices I’ve made but then when I look at this year… I’ve started a business, got 3 awards at school, and on yesterday, I was informed that I received a fellowship *takes a bow*  Oh yea, and there’s the whole being alive, well and not being homeless J
So, my goals for 2014 are as follows:
1.    Stop aiming for perfection, it’s impossible.
2.    Realize that I haven’t made any mistakes.  Every decision I’ve made was meant and will shape the person I’m supposed to be.
3.    Stop being so hard on myself…  How many times have I posted this?  Well I intend on reminding myself until I get it right.
4.    Live a little.  School, work, work and school (no wonder I’m so upset).
5.    TRAVEL! I don’t know how I’m going to do it and where I’m going but I need to do this.
6.    And, let’s not forget a healthy lifestyle… Why is this so hard for me?!
7.    FORGIVE.
8.    Find a new job (that I’ll love) in a new city (that I’ll love) #shade
9.    Pick up photography as a new hobby.
10.  Be appreciative. Be appreciative. Be appreciative.
11.  GIVE.
12.  Make room for new friends!
What’s your resolution?  If you say to “lose weight,” we are no longer friends…

Ok, if you’re Yonced out, you may want to skip to tomorrow’s original post…
(Still with me?)  Well, sometime Friday morning, a little after midnight, a wave of hysteria hit all my social media outlets… Beyonce released an album and no one knew it was coming?!   No marketing? No teasers?   Nothing?  Like who the f**k does that? Freakin genius but then I had to log off Twitter, Instagram & Tumblr because it was just overwhelming…  See, I don’t really stan for anyone so I went to bed, lol.
By Saturday morning, FEMA was on the scene and I was able to gather more information like: it was a “visual album” (the album contains 14 songs with videos for each plus a bonus video for Grown Woman).  Further, there are a total of 32 tracks on this album…  After locating the album on iTunes and listening to the first few songs, I entered the zombie apocalypse. I became a stan (all hail Queen Bey)!  This album is. so. freakin. good.  What’s even better is her emergence as a feminist.  After listening, I felt so empowered, sexy, I want to CHANGE THE WORLD but all of that has kind of subsided once I got to work this morning, lol.
Currently, my favorite songs are: Drunk in Love (feat. Jay Z), Blow & Partition.  Retailing at $15.99 (which is worth it), you can purchase this exclusively on iTunes.  Individual songs and a physical copy will be available later this month, although, I’m judging you if you still buy CDs…

Fall is here which means the temperature is perfect for blowouts.  I was out of heat protectant so I mosied over to Sally Beauty Supply to try something new.  I asked one of the cashiers beauty consultants if she could recommend a spray or cream for someone with natural hair and she told me that she uses Turn Up The Heat Protection Spray by Beyond The Zone.  She told me it was oil based not water based...whatever that means, lol.

  • Use with any heat styling appliance
  • Leaves hair soft and manageable
  • Seals the cuticle for silky smooth looking hair
  • Creates slip for effortless heat styling
Beyond The Zone Turn Up The Heat Flat Iron Protection Spray is a spray-in treatment that smoothes hair. This humidity-resistant heat styling aid adds a "Heat Defense" barrier that protects the hair from thermal heat.

Beyond The Zone Turn Up The Heat Flat Iron Protection Spray helps optimize the effectiveness of flat irons, curling irons, and hair dryers while providing outstanding heat protection, and adding smoothness, shine, and softness to your hair.

I've used it twice in a two month period and I did see more shine than usual (which may also be due to Mixed Chicks)...  It retails for $6.99 which is worth the risk.  For more info, reviews and to purchase, visit Sally!

Side note:  I couldn't post a picture because the one that Sally has looks like crap *shoulder shrug*

I've just come to the realization that I have 3 pictures of Audrey Hepburn from Breakfast at Tiffany's...does that make me obsessed??? :/

Breakfast at Tiffany's is one of my favorite movies (wedged in between Gone with the Wind & The Sound of Music).  Why?  First and foremost, it's starring Audrey Hepburn...yea...take it

Sort of...kind of...brief synopsis:

"In an idealized New York City during the early '60s, Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn) is a charming socialite with a youthful zest for life who lives alone in a nearly bare apartment. She has such a flippant lifestyle that she won't even give her cat a name, because that would be too much of a commitment to a relationship. Maintaining a childlike innocence yet wearing the most perfect of designer clothes and accessories from Givenchy, she spends her time on expensive dates and at high-class parties. She escorts various wealthy men, yet fails to return their affections after they have given her gifts and money. Holly's carefree independence is changed when she meets her neighbor, aspiring writer Paul (George Peppard), who is suffering from writer's block while being kept by a wealthy woman (Patricia Neal). Just when Holly and Paul are developing their sweet romance, Doc (Buddy Ebsen) appears on the scene and complicates matters, revealing the truth about Holly's past. Breakfast at Tiffany's was nominated for several Academy awards, winning Best Score for Henry Mancini and Best Song for Johnny Mercer's classic tune "Moon River".

I feel like I share some similarities with her character (Holly Golightly) such as:
  • Overdressing  (I overdress at work, to parties and even wear fake pearls while laying around my apartment on weekends)
  • Pastry and coffee for breakfast (yep, this is pretty much my breakfast every morning #badgirl)
  • Manhattan socialite (of course, this ideal is all in my head, lol)
  • Stray cat (I adopted a stray cat for about 6 months and I miss that little guy)
  • My need to stare at expensive things through the windows of Saks and Tiffany's (my Dad had to literally peel me off the
  • My transformation from the semi-hood of New Orleans to being ultra bougie, lol.
Overall, this movie is a classic and I never get tired of watching it!  This weekend's homework: rent this movie, buy yourself a bottle of wine, grab a blanket and tell me what you think!

Side note: I have that same picture hanging in my bedroom :)

Not the Same
So...I ran out of moisturizing soap (I usually shower with two soaps: black soap and a moisturizing soap) and decided to head to our local natural food store (Rainbow Co-op) to buy a bar or two.  I usually choose oatmeal soap because it's cheap and smells pretty good  BUT...time begin to slow, there was darkness and then a bright light emerged over Napa Valley Wine Bar *insert angels singing* my soap.....HELL YES!

Description: Lavender Lovers Look out! The Napa Valley Wine Bar is a beautiful bar of soap loaded with Lavender essential oil. Truly a silky, skin softening bar with a added touch of wine from the Napa Valley. A great gift for you and your Lavender Lover loved ones.

Like any soap from a natural food store, you can smell a hint of the actual ingredient (wine) along with an overwhelming earthy smell, eck!  It actually smells like booze and swamp land but I digress...

The soap lathered really well and it does infuse moisture.  And in the event you didn't know, I do suffer from Eczema and after using this soap for two days, I would say it works great for anyone with sensitive skin.

As stated previously, I purchased this from Rainbow for 7 bucks and some change but you can't shop them online, however, you can buy it from this store (where its a tad bit more expensive).

In ME & QUIRKY CRAP YOU DIDN'T KNOW I told you guys about a book I was reading and thought I would recommend it to you: How to Win Friends and Influence People.

I'm not sure where I was informed about this book (probably on Tumblr) but thought it would be great for career purposes (or lack thereof)...  Who wouldn't want tips from a book that has remained popular since the 1930s!!!

Brief synopsis:

For more than sixty years the rock-solid, time-tested advice in this book has carried thousands of now famous people up the ladder of success in their business and personal lives.  Now this previously revised and updated bestseller is available in trade paperback for the first time to help you achieve your maximum potential throughout the next century! Learn:
  • Three fundamental techniques in handling people
  • The six ways to make people like you
  • The twelve ways to win people to you way of thinking
  • The nine ways to change people without arousing resentment

So far so good, I've bookmarked a few tips.  I think I'm in chapter 3 of part 1 (don't judge me, y'all know I'm in school).  I plan to wrap this book up after I finals next Tuesday.  Other books on my list:
Well isn't this list  I buy most of my books from iBooks because they're cheaper.  Of course there's Amazon, Barnes & Noble (which I have a membership with), etc.

So, this shopping season wasn't a total lost...  My mom told me she needed some makeup so I bought her to MAC where she proceeded to pick out foundation and three lipsticks while I walked out with one thing: MAC's Divine Mineralize Eye Shadow, lol.

Baked minerals refined into a powder formula provide exceptionally sheer and lightweight application. Colour builds lightly, layer after layer, without heavy coverage. Pairs two rich, contrasting shades with the graphic impact of a luxe powder design. Limited-edition Divine Night packaging.

Any who, if there are two colors that belong together, it's navy and smokey gray and I intend on wearing each and even blending them from time to time.  Yea so, this eye shadow is about to be my new best friend and it's fitting for my current mood: blue and gray, lol.

Retailing at $23 (sleeesh, I know, I know) and can be purchased, here!

I ran out of Neutrogena (read: SHE WANTS THAT OLD THING BACK- Neutrogena's Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask) so I decided to try something different: Garnier's Soothing Remover Cleansing Towelettes for Sensitive Skin.

I choose this over the others because it contains no fragrance, alcohol or dye and because it was labeled NEW.  In contrast, if it's new at Krogers it probably came out 8 months ago, lol. Any who, about this product:

Specially adapted to suit sensitive skin, Garnier Soothing Remover Cleansing Towelettes are infused with calming plant extract and vitamin E, to perfectly cleanse, comfort, and help clear skin of impurities, oil, and waterproof mascara. Dermatologist tested for safety. Ophthalmologist tested. Tested on contact lens wearers.
  • For sensitive skin
  • Gently cleanses without rubbing
  • Removes even waterproof mascara

  • Source: Ulta

So, I think these wipes did a good job at removing makeup and dirt (however, my makeup was already sliding off).  I will say that I kind of... may not have... washed my face after using them but this morning I used another wipe before washing my face and barely had any dirt.  I think for the price, it's worth a try :) The price depends on where you buy it from.  I've seen it for 3 bucks and some change to 6 dollars.  Check it out at Ulta (where it's cheaper with reviews).

"Colour plus texture for the lips. Stands out on the runway. Simmers on the street! What made M·A·C famous."

Some time a few weeks ago, I was feeling all emo and wanted to find a dark lip to match my mood.  I mosied over to MAC and introduced myself to Cyber.

I was honestly scared to wear this.  Between this very dark color and my dark complexion, I thought the color wouldn't pop but on the contrary...

And... a little tip: brush your lips with a warm towel to get rid of any dead skin.  I also add chapstick before putting lipstick on (I suffer from very very dry lips year around).

This lipstick retails for 15 bucks and is available MAC!

Is this new because I never knew it  Any who, I picked this up at Kroger Tuesday night but I'll give you a little background info:

"A light, alcohol-free, Conditioning hydrating gel.  Stops frizz, adds moisture, defines, shapes and seals in any size or texture of curl.  Dries soft and adds shine with no flaking.  Apply after Clean-N-Curly shampoo. Use on wet hair to set in curls. Use on dry hair to revitalize curls.  Avoid combing/fingering through hair for at least 10-15 minutes to help seal in curls and prevent frizz. Also holds hair in place for ponytails, pinups, twist outs, etc."
So, this is a another sort of kind of review because I didn't follow directions, lol.  Yes, it does look like a gel but glides on as an oil and I felt like it didn't do anything for my hair but I proceeded to comb and twist my hair right after I put it in, lol.  Directions clearly states to not touch hair right after.
Reading is fundamental and I'll try again #worsebloggerever #ohwell
Taliah Waajid can be purchased almost anywhere (Target, Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, etc.) but you could always go straight to their site!

When I was young, I was completely content with the idea of being an artsy bum on the streets of New Orleans French Quarters... What happened to that girl???

Any who, I get real antsy near December because December is the month I decided to revamp my blog a few years ago.  Last year, I outlined a couple of goals and I've met one: more original posts.  This is a very tough task but I have an idea how I can makeup for that.  I need to ensure this blog reflects ALL of me so while I love beauty and fashion, I also love reading, art, music, booze and food.  Pink Gumbeaux is going to start traveling into that direction...

In contrast, one goal I haven't achieved: vlogging. I made one but the quality is really bad.  I bought this really expensive camera and have yet to really use it.  I hoping to get bitten by some creative bug and start taking photos.

Another thing, I need to figure out how to organize reblogs.. .I don't like the current format :/

Last but not least, I'm thinking strongly about removing advertisements.  I've already removed two.  It's not like I'm making any real money off it so get a good look at them because they may be gone...

My Weekend Review: Mixed Chicks, Que Bella & Other Crap

Hey guys!  I haven't done a weekend review in ages because weekend reviews often require me to actually do something outside of homework but I digress, lol.

Lets see, I saw two movies, tailgated, had brunch with friends and window shopped this weekend but you don't want to hear about all that so let's start with Mixed Chicks.  First, if you don't know, I am a cowasher (I probably shampoo a few times a year).  Any who, I was able to use both their deep conditioner (REVIEW: MIXED CHICKS DEEP CONDITIONER) and Leave-in (MIXED CHICKS LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER).

As usual, I let the deep conditioner sit in my hair while I showered.  I also used that time to finger detangle than I rinsed.  I added two dime-sized drops of olive oil and added their deep conditioner.  Once out, my fingers slid through my hair.  My hair just felt so moisturized, defined and no tangles!  I passed a rat tail comb through it and like I said, it just slid right through!  That was Saturday, today is Monday and I still don't feel the need to add any moisturizer.  I probably will tonight.  I say all that to say that I'm officially transitioning to Mixed Chicks products!

Now to Que Bella's Peel-Off Masks.  I bought this a week or so ago but was able to finally use it Saturday.

    About Que Bella

"Based in the English county of Lancashire, we are surrounded by nature and take this as inspiration to use natural ingredients with inherent properties which naturally condition your skin and hair.
Our aim is to take the finest ingredients that nature has to offer and turn them into wonderful body-care products, that are really effective, a delight to use and affordable for everyone as an everyday treat."

So, I have to just say this... That mask is freaking hilarious.  I looked like a beauty monster. Any way, the directions said to place the mask on your face and relax.  You should follow those directions because I was trying to do stuff and the mask kept falling off until I sat down a laid my head back for like 10 minutes.  My face looked a shade or so lighter so I would say it removed dirt but as I stated previously, I was moving around too much so my results or shitty, lol.

I bought the refining mask with fruit enzymes.  There are a host you can choose from but you'll have to physically go to Target.  They don't have the entire selection online neither did Que Bella list it on their site...WTH? Any who, check out a few here!

Last but not least, if you haven't noticed, I've been shifting stuff around.  I would like the actual blog to be the focus so I pushed everything down.  Unfortunately, Blogger doesn't give me a whole lot to choose from :/ Let me know if this format works for you...

So...I heard a little chat about it but really didn't do any research until last night.  If you haven't heard, the Sonia Kashuk brand has expanded and now includes bath and body products.

About SK (which is what I call her since we're such great friends....)

"Makeup artist extraordinaire Sonia Kashuk is dedicated to help every woman be her most beautiful self. She has created this line of high quality cosmetics and accessories — good enough to be in her own makeup case — at outstanding prices."

So... the bath and body products include shower gel, body wash, body polish, spa brush, exfoliating mitten, shower cap, loofah, body oil and perfume in three yummy scents: Purple Seductia, Pink Innocencia & Yellow Alluriana.

    A little about the scents...

So, the timing for this post is just perfect.  Before I got an invite to post my "truths" on Facebook, I already had it outlined for this goes!

    1.     I had aspirations of being a crazy cat lady, maybe one day.

    2.     I don’t like my food touching.  For example, if my chicken touches my pasta, I may not eat the parts that touched! #judgeme

    3.       I am a very very picky eater!!!

    4.       I’m actually introverted.  I’m still uncomfortable in most social environments.

    5.       I hate mornings, specifically, mornings when I have to come to work and people talk to me…lol.

    6.     I’m not particularly fond of my current location and miss New Orleans daily.

    7.       I’ve been in school all of my life.  I’ve literally been in school since 4!!!

    8.       I love coffee, drink it every day, 1 to 3 cups a day!

    9.       I value my iPhone and iPad more than most relationships I have.

    10.   I enjoy recreational reading.  I’m currently reading “How to Win Friends & Influence People,” published in 1936 by Dale Carnegie.

    11.   I don’t get much sleep.  I usually do homework when I leave work into the wee hours.

    12.   I prefer walking over running and gyms.  It also allows me to get a lot of thinking in.

    13.   I listen to music alllll day.  Currently, my favorite singer and girl crush is Lana Del Rey.

    14.   My favorite show is American Horror Story!
Yea, so…I think this everything I come up with that you guys don’t already know.  What are your “truths?”
