Giving the Side Eye to Maybelline's Color Sensational

Hey Guys!

So, when I blog about some products, I ensure I try them every now and then. If you've been following my posts lately, you'll know that I've been on a cheap makeup binge. Any who, I purchased a couple of Maybeline's Color Sensation Lipsticks and I really liked the colors but than, something funny begin to happen to my lips. My lips were dry and have been cracking for the last two weeks. This lipstick is the only one I've been using so I know it's THEIR FAULT! The day before yesterday, I started using my MAC lip balm as a primer and than putting on their lipstick. My lips aren't cracking and I don't see dry skin anymore. If you buy this lipstick, use a balm first. Color sensation retails at about $5.50 at Walmart.

10 Beauty Blunders You Are Making Everyday

Orly Nail Lacquers

Good morning sunshine, I hope everyone had a great Easter break! Any who, last Friday I went into Sally's Beauty Supply and there was a sale for nail polishes. Buy two, get one free :) As I browsed through the collection, I ran across a lot of familiar colors but then I decided to look at the Orly Collection. The polishes ran about $5.99 a piece.

I purchased the Bonder (which is used before the color coats to make the nail polish last long) and two colors (green apple and witch's blue). With the bonder, two coats of green apple, and a top coat, I saw some chipping 2 days after; however, the polish does dry rather quickly and it polishes on so smooth....So, I'm going to probably continue to buy's not like I leave nail polish on all week anyway...(shoulder shrug)

Becoming a Local

So, I am originally from New Orleans and moved to Jackson, Mississippi to attend school. Two degrees later, I'm still here and I hate it rather I like it or not. The problem with transitioning some years later is because I come from such a unique and cultural City compared to...a different type of City, lol. Over the past couple of years, I've branched out and participated in local festivals and events. I always had the most fun not just because of the activities but because of the friends I'm with. The point I'm making is it doesn't matter if you're in your home town or somewhere else...become a local! Plus, it's cheaper than shopping and traveling, lol.

Side note: that's a picture I took of Jackson's first second line. It was pretty fun; although, my mom does not tolerate copy cats :)

Also, even though I just launched in December, I have readers from all over the world (yes, I said it). If there is anything going on in your area you think is a cool local event, let me know and I'll post it!

5 Steps To Gracefully Cancelling Plans

Product Update: Maybelline's Fit Me concealer, foundation, and pressed powder, Hard Candy's Hide and Glow Cheek Tints, and Halle Berry's Reveal

So, it's not often I do an update on products. Usually, I post affordable things just to make the readers aware. Nonetheless, I purchased Maybelline's Fit Me concealer, foundation, and pressed powder, Hard Candy's Hide and Glow Cheek Tints, and Halle Berry's Reveal.

So, I read a lot of reviews and watched tons of videos before I purchased this. All three products were between $5.48-$6.48. The problem with this line is that they give tons of choices for lighter skins and leave dark women out. I went ahead and purchased the darkest foundation and pressed powder a 355 and concealer 30 and I must say...I'm in love!!! I like the way it comes on, it looks natural but I've only had it on for two hours so I really dont know yet, lol. But I do know...these three items would equal one MAC foundation...

Well....I got the darkest color in this Hide and Glow Cheek Tints. Um...I didn't like the way it came on and I had very minimum color. I do understand it's a tint but...REALLY? This crap was $6 in may work better on lighter tones.

Halle Berry's Reveal cost me $16 at Walmart and I truly love the smell but I was disappointed at the size of's only 5 oz. I'm still on the fence about recommending this...

There you have it, I blew cash on these products because I was itching to try them. Overall, I'm satisfied. If you guys signed up for consignment like I told you, you'll have cash to blow on nothing like me :)

Side note: I purchased all the above things at Walmart.

Cupcakes & Conversation with Misty Copeland, Soloist, American Ballet Theatre

So, I posted an article on Misty Copeland from Madame Noire's site some time back and it's still one of my most popular posts. Yesterday, I received a message from a fellow blogger on her interview with Ms. Copeland entitled ""Cupcakes & Conversation with Misty Copeland, Soloist, American Ballet Theatre". Tailored Made

I think it's great when men wear suites but my pet peeve is to see them in one that looks like they purchased it at a two for one at some clearance store. I've actually posted a blog or two on men's suits. In the same token, it's time for women to step up. Personally, I don't own any suits because I don't want to look like a deaconess or like I hate my life. The more tailored look is expensive and...I don't have it like that, lol. I gravitate to more of the Jackie O type business dresses. Any who, I was able to pull some tailored suites at it's cheapest, below are a few...

My job isnt that important to be walking around in $470.00 but nonetheless; one can probally achieve this look at TJ Maxx or Marshalls (shoulder shrug).

Essie's Matte About You

So, I know I said that I was never going to use Essie again because they don't last's the thing, I was looking for matte nail polish and couldn't find any. One of the beauty associates stopped me on my way out and said that Essie had a Matte top coat that could be used on any nail polish brand and any color. This crap cost 10 bucks but it came out nice! Just like any other matte. So, if you didn't already know about this matte trend, try it out. You can find Essie at Trade Secret, Walmart, Walgreens, Amazon, and at Essie's web site. Below are a few pics of matte polished nails.

Reveal by Halle Berry, Walmart

So, I totally was suppose to be grocery shopping yesterday when I passed Halle Berry's perfume "Reveal". I just knew it wasn't going to be pleasing to my nose because it was at Walmart. Any who, I sprayed a little bit on my wrist and feel in love :) Online the perfume is $16 and $18 in the stores.

Drug Store Make-up vs. Expensive Brands

Within a month I've actually stopped to view makeup in stores like Walgreens and Walmart. I was one of those women who wore MAC and recently moved to Sephora and Ulta. The question is, does a higher price guarantee a better product? So, my opinion is....
  1. MAC has the best foundation until proven otherwise...
  2. You can get eye shadows, lipsticks, and lip glosses from anywhere
  3. Cheap nail polish works better than OPI and Essie on me
As I stated before, I just started these observations so I'll probably do a follow-up post if something changes. Another bonus of cheap makeup is being able to buy two and three of whatever ONE piece of expensive make-up would cost... It's all on your budget and I've heard men don't like us in make-up anyway... BUT WHO CARES! :)

6 Things Your Nail Salon Doesn't Want You to Know

I kind of figured these salons weren't doing everything they were suppose to and that's why I've eased off. I literally went to the nail salon every two weeks from the ages of 13 to 20 to get my nails manicured/pedicured and my eye brows polished. Moreover, this is why I post so many videos on nails and I've posted one on how to properly arch eye brows. Any who, click the link to view the article.

Make Extra Cash Pt. 2

Last week I wrote a blog post on making extra cash with consignment. Since then, Ive thought of a few more ways to make some extra cash. Now it's important to understand that I don't have any emotional ties to anything I own; therefore, I have no problem with...SELLING IT! So, what can you make money on? Below, is a list:
  1. Old washer, dryer, and appliances (scrap metal vendors will buy your scrap metals)
  2. Old jewelry (Can you say Cash for Gold??? It's not like you're going to ever wear it again anyway...)
Between selling your clothes, purses, shoes, and accessories to consignment and selling any waste appliances and old'll have enough money to buy...who knows but try it out. Remember, google is your best friend so do some research on how you can make some extra cash in your area!

Style Inspiration: Teyana Taylor’s Tribal Vibe Magazine Photo Shoot

Now me being the person I am, I would not spend the amount of money these clothes actually costs (because I don't have that amount, lol). Any who, get inspiration from these fun prints and check out local bargain boutiques.

Make Extra Cash with Consignment

From some of these posts, it would appear I am a shopaholic... Well, that's not entirely true; however, I do ensure there is some sort of balance in my spending by selling my old clothes, shoes, accessories, and purses to consignment stores.

Consignment stores will sale your old or unwanted belongings for a price and split the profits with you. Now you will in no way become a Millionaire from this and if your stuff doesn't sale, you have the option to either pick your things up or donate them to charity. Personally, I donate my things because I use it as a tax write-off ;)

Another cool thing about consignment stores is that they have a lot of great buys from modern pieces of artwork to vintage clothing. I've been either buying or selling stuff to consignment for about four years now.
WARNING: If you have a crazy attachment to your clothes and how much you paid for them, consignment is not for you!
